Oh, in green. Hey, I have to give credit where its due, I hear they are damn great handling cars like the Miata. I still like the my S2000 or my first gen MR2 better. Sold a couple months ago. They are real sports cars. I still don't understand why people (Not OP) still think the Japanese make an inferior product?

I always loved the S2k, and have had 3 miatas. I don't think I'd care much for a civic. I'd be curious to drive one of the original NSXes as well.

Ditto on any Nomad...that '55 looks especially sweet. But yes, very cool and fun. Dunno how sporty tho...neither deliver a lot of performance.

Maybe something on the not fast but funky side? Early 50's Chevy sedan delivery, something like that?

Yeah, I'd love a fastback but those are probably $50k+ in decent condition. Was thinking about the normal body.

How often will you need a back seat? Some of the booster seats of today are monsterous. Some parents waver about the idea of demanding Airbags in cars with kids these days.

We all know that the glossy nostalgia machines are on BAT.. so go confuse yourself ;)

Back seat would be weekends only for the next ten years or so. My daughter is nearly three so we've got some time with her being small enough to fit in a small rear seat.

BAT browsing is probably the best idea! Thanks.

She drives an Audi Q5 which she really likes. I actually tried to get her into a Cayenne but she didn't really like them.

Not keen on Japanese SPORTS cars but a mid 60s Mustang? Is this about driving dynamics or looks and emotions? Those Rustangs drive like crap stock even if tricked a bit, still an old car that doesn't not handle well. I hear good things about those BRZs (newer ones suppose to have more power) or the new Civic is a lot of fun but looks like siht with all the fake vents and stuff on there. Theydrive everybit like a sports cars should, so I hear.

All of the above. I don't want a Honda CRX or something of the like sitting in my driveway, though I'm sure its a ton of fun to drive. Old Mustangs can be modernized to drive better relatively easily.

If I were to go with two seats an S2000 might not sound bad! Totally forgot about them.

elise if you can forgo the back seat requirement.

Evora if you want a 2+2 cayman that is not a cayman, will be over budget.

That being said I did own a Dodge Viper and a Ducati 1198 at the same time when I first started flying the Hornet, so maybe I shouldn't kid myself.

I'll be the contrarian and respectfully disagree you need a "fun" car with a 3 year old....3 become 5 which become 7 in the blink of an eye: if you have a second kid, fuggedaboutit.

You need a "sporty" car, or a car that makes you grin with the kids. You already have the coolest car in the world which the daughter is going to love.

And trust me, the daughter is only going to care about car time in the 911 with Dad at a certain point. In my case Arden and I would head out in the 964, 356 or SL560 and yap for an hour or so. She drove when she got her license. Best times of my life.

I'd sell the Disco and look at some of the compact SUV rocket ships on the market. Plenty of room for weekend fun trips, the '72 stays and you have a DD as well.

You can have a lot of fun in some of the newer compact SUVs.

I went the other route. Second child I sold my 911SC and bought a Defender 90. Top on or off, we all loved it. Fun isn't always about the driver only:cool:

I asked my former F-111 pilot buiddy why he sold his 'Vette. Told me that once he'd done mach speed a couple of hundred feet off a desert floor, cars weren't exciting anymore. He hated aging out of the air guard...

Okay, back to cars. Maybe too new for you...but less than 7,000 '08-'09 Bullitt Mustangs sold. Want really rare? '09's with 629 in green, only 181 in Black.
Every now & then somebody posts a very low miles '08-'09 for sale on the Bullitt board...fools who bought new thinking they'd be sure fire collectables in a decade or so.
$20K will get a nice one...but they don't show up often.

(edit) Lots of wisdom in Seahawk's post..especially when it comes to kids.

pavulon 12-18-2020 01:06 PM

Ls swapped 944.

masraum 12-18-2020 01:10 PM

How about a Jeep Wrangler. Not exactly "sporty" in the traditional sense, but fun anyway.

MRM 12-18-2020 01:13 PM

For that budget you can get a later model Mustang. They look like sex and get great reviews. A newer 2+2 seems to fit your needs better than a classic. I’d surely hesitate to put my young children in the back of an early Mustang, even though they’re an icon of an icon.

One of the larger engines 3 Series should also be on the short list. Fun to be in and even more fun to drive.

Have you priced D90's lately Paul? Ouch......

Wise words. She already begs to go downstairs to the garage to sit in the car. She loves two things right now - Cars and dinosaurs! I'm actually thinking about hooking up a way to get her car seat into the passenger race seat.

So I've actually considered an old 70s MB SL...

Torn on the Disco, she's become a part of the family. But it is just a vehicle...

Maybe the styling? While its not fair I feel that JDM gets lumped into the F&F crowd.

An early '90s NSX though...

Medical reasons forced me out of the cockpit. It took about two years for me to be able to swallow that pill without being angry.

onewhippedpuppy 12-18-2020 01:43 PM

I love these threads but I think you need to get a little more focused in your criteria. Right now it could include about 50% of the cars for sale on Autotrader.:D I always have suggestions but right now I’m not sure if it’s a Wrangler Rubicon or a CL65 AMG.

But I will add one thing. You’ll be about double your budget to make a ‘60s Mustang drive like a mediocre modern sports car.

Toyota's GT 86 Is the Perfect 30-Year-Old Car

The Toyota GT 86 isn't exactly new, but it's still the most exciting car at the Geneva Motor Show, both for what it is and what it represents.

I saw the 4 seat request. But, I just moved to a boxster s and it is such a great car. Maybe my favorite of all time. It is that good.
