Messing with short people:

The whole YOLO/reddit/Gamestop thing has my head spinning...has it already been covered here?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, just google it. Bananas.

I never understood the short game in the market. Buffet said - expect to stay invested in a stock for at least 5 years before selling.

In a month or so, I predict this Gamestock / Reddit thing will be history. The stock will jump back down to normal levels, and all the kids in their parent's basement will be back to a zero net gain, while some of the smarter ones taking their gains elsewhere.

My $0.42,

Of course it will eventually fall. Last ones out will be left holding the bag.

When someone says to me "lets mess with short people", that's not exactly what I am thinking of...

I think apps like "Robin Hood" help fuel the investment/ gambling craze a bit with the younger generation. It's like having a slot machine on your phone.

Hahahaha...this is hilarious.

Melvin is already down 30%. If/when Gamestop hits 175$, they will have 100% loss on their short position on GME.

Remember this... Most people look for the soft option.

I have a small portfolio that is doing well and I don't trust Bit Coin etc.
Most of my money is tied up in real estate.

Boring I know but I was never smart (brave?) enough to truly "invest" in the market.

Hahahha...mohahahah....the more I read the better it gets.

Could not have happened to nicer people...poor poor hedge funds. apparently, Elon Musk and Chamath Palihapitiya also joined the pitchfork mob.

Real estate tends to have a more direct value, although there can still be bubbles.
It also provides you something you can use while you own.
The downsider is higher barrier to entry.

As for the original situation, looks like a source of manipulatible population has been found that a savvy persuader could use to get very very rich.
Being a part of a mob, thinking goes out the window.

Apparently, they are now looking at other stocks, like AMC and Blackberry.

If I were that age, 50 or 100k in debt...what do you have to lose ?

whatever cash they have/had to buy stocks...

Hmm, you've got some cash and a bunch of debt, so you gamble the cash on the market hoping that you can then pay off your debt.

I guess that might, maybe be a tiny bit better than thinking that you can do the same things betting on dogs or horses or playing poker.
