I'd get a '63 Plymouth Savoy Max Wedge. I was the impressionable age of 13 when it came out and it made an impression. MoPar owned the Super Stock classes in those days.

Lot's of good choices, it's tough not to agree with cars like the 997 gt3rs, especially in Viper Green. A friend had one, it was the best track toy I ever got to drive. That said, since cost is no object, my choice for the first car on the list has to be the Tipo 33 Stradale. Unfortunately, having the money to buy one does not cover the problem of a guy who's 6'4" and just under 3 bills trying to get in the car and realize the dream...

Hahaha that is my problem too John. My size rules out a lot of "dream" cars for me.

And honestly the 997RS in my garage is plenty of dream car.

All lovely to look at. Each with their own attractions. I have no desire to possess. I know too well the hassles involved in owning one.

Nothing against your long hood and the supposed drama that it brought you Paul, but it was also no 959.

That's a great perspective. I'm still thrilled with my 930. Takes a lot of the lust out of having anything else exotic, modern, and/or expensive--especially when factoring real-life issues like affording it. But once in awhile, it's still fun to ponder these "what if" questions.

my teenager is frustrated with his 5'8" height as an athlete. I told him you get a good job and one day you might be standing in front of a vintage F car for sale and you'll be pretty darned grateful for that lack of height!

Which is exactly why I chose the 991 TTS. Beautiful, fast, practical and somewhat bombproof. Drive it across the country, drop in at the local drag strip, click off 10 second passes all day long, take the long long long way home and commute to work the next day.

I love the look of the exotics but I just get mild anxiety thinking of the practicality of owning an GTO or a Pantera or a Cobra

Actually, my thinking is that the longnose 911 doesn't offer a driving pleasure or status to equal the prices they are getting. I feel the same of the 959. Pretty much all of the "dream cars" posted, actually. Zero urge to possess any of them. Others feel differently. More power to 'em.

I was speaking more from my age standpoint...at 77, I find the entire collector car thing to be a silly sideshow.

But..when I was younger, I felt differently. So to each his own.

Call me weird but I really have zero desire for anything other than what I have. Now If I had oodles of money and was forced to buy, I would get a 986, 986S, a 928, a 944, a 924, a 914, a 968.... Oh, a 964 too.

I would get massive anxiety owning anything that super special like a 959, 73RS or a 918.

Plus, I'd probably do something stupid like paint the rims in my garage or something similar.

If I could go back in time, I would much prefer to tour France in a 911S (a la Steve McQueen, in the movie Le Mans opening sequence) rather than hammer down a German Autobahn in the late 1980s, in a 959.

YMMV...

Well, if one had oodles of money, one could do the Jay Leno thing. That includes having a staff of skiiled people to care for the fleet. Having to do the care yourself and getting the car to an expert for the jobs beyond your skill level is indeed a pain. Let me tell you, the pain gets worse as you age...both emotionally and physically.

Just speaking from experience, mind you...

I hear you Noah, I still miss my 964T and had the opportunity to buy it back for 3 times what I sold it to the guy for.

No thanks, decided to try something different.

It is fun to dream, hence the thread title. Now if we had to factor in insurance, operating costs and be rational every persons response would be a Toyota of some sort!

This.

It is in in my garage right now.

If I could have a true dream car it would be an 1987 930 Grand Prix White, Burgundy interior factory sunroof delete, loaded with full options. And have the same AC upgrade I have done on my 85, 4 condenser killer cold AC. And it would get driven not sit in a garage.

Lots of the cars in this thread are really cool, but watch the many threads about driving a 904 or old Ferrari and you realize they are just to look at and not drive.

I've seen Glen's car in person. That thing looks like it just rolled off the assembly line.

I'm starting to get a sense that Glen is the sort of person who takes care of his things in order to make them last. I may be wrong, but I've got that notion.

Since 1974 I have only owned three cars. I still own two of those. I prefer to maintain cars and keep them in top shape. I have not had a car payment since 1996.
