Lexus CT200 H
Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this model? My daughter is looking at a 2017 with 50,000 miles. I’ve done a little research and besides being a nicer Prius it seems like a dependable car.

They are good looking, mpg, dependable cars, but appear to have a low roof-line if that is an issue.

The Prius is for people who hate cars. This is a Prius with less efficiency and a premium markup.

It was a contender for my daily driver before I bought Chevy Volt. Lexus is nice, reliable car. A good choice for young folks. Not very involving to drive and somewhat noisy, but a good car.

I remember when looking for a hybrid myself that the Lexus had quite significant updates in 2014 (you can tell by the radio antenna , a fin rather than the original stalk) which stiffened the chassis to give more responsive handling, because soggy cars aren't acceptable in Europe . It also has a minute trunk.
The Hyundai Ioniq offered far more for the money, as a comfortable 5 seater with a longer warranty, large trunk, and servicing costs about half those of the CT200H |
Anything "Lexus" would be a good option for your daughter.
"Toyota build quality with a touch of class" - Seems like a good idea to me. BUT I'd never own a Japanese or Chinese made car! My reasons are political so I can't share them here. |

We bought a new 2012 CT200h. Now has 69k miles. All service done at the dealer, my wife drives it in and they give her a loaner. I'm not interested in doing maintenance on that car. Not one thing has gone wrong or broke. It is not fast and I would think it is a very good car for a first time driver.

its a lexus prius, or probably one of the most reliable cars you can buy short of an SC400 or something.
|
Thanks for the positive comments. I can now give her my positive approval.

The Atkinson Cycle lasts forever with synthetic oil. The hybrid drive train gets 35mpg at it's worst. It can accelerate but it really doesn't like to. It has sufficient passenger space for a full party and luggage inside. There a reason so many taxi companies have added it to their fleet. My only two complaints are that the nav system GUI still sux in a sucky way, and the new 'star trek' wrapped dash layout is completely dysfunctional for practical use. |

they get a terrible rap, but we have had a few out on the lake, and on the ice, they handle really well actually. i wouldn't describe them as fun, but compared to any other FWD econobox made by anyone else, it was just as good. i recommend 2nd gen pruis' to normies all day. they really are great for car stuff. |
