It looks like he was very lucky. He just missed a couple of serious telephone poles.

He mowed down one pole, not sure what it was, plus a bunch of small trees. There’s nothing left of the first three or 4 feet of the car.

Looks like he took the oil pan out when he crossed the median, all the oil was dumped in the opposite lane.

His problems started a few hundred yards up the road, so he was traveling at a pretty serious rate of knots.

Very lucky indeed, could’ve been a life-ender for sure.

Single car crash. He's fine, and was reportedly standing up with help once out of the car. Multiple fractures in his leg, however.

Looking at the (lack of a) front end, he was moving RAPIDLY.

You are not the driver you're looking for, Tiger. Keep it in the bag

One of these posts is inaccurate. He was not standing up w a compound fracture in his leg.

I'm glad that he's going to make it but those are some really gnarly injuries.

Anyone know what the vehicle was? Just curious.

Read that it was a Genesis GV80 that he was driving after hosting a Genesis Golf Tournament over the weekend.

2021 Genesis SUV.

Los Angeles County Fire representative Leslie Lua told CNN rescuers used a halligan tool and an axe to pry Woods out.

He was not able to stand.

Thanks, got more info since my last post. On TMZ, of all places. It's funny but they report the **** out of incidents involving celebrities. I had forgotten that there was a tournament going on @ Riviera CC, which I knew about. That's a loooong ways from PV, where he was staying and where he crashed.

javadog 02-23-2021 03:50 PM

TMZ does have quite the reputation but I will say that they have better sources than just about anybody out there.

Turned on the news tonight. CNN, FOX, even MSNBC was all about Tiger Woods. NPR mentioned him, but went on to things that might impact the lives of someone outside Mr. Wood's immediate family.
Why are we being led to believe that the health status of a guy who plays golf is headline level important?

Because people are tired of hearing about COVID and politics.

You must be new here. The media is lazy.

It's a big news story for one news cycle, IOW, one day. He is extremely famous and it's a slow news day. You talk like you just discovered television news...this would always have been covered. It's never changed.

The definition of news is that it is important or interesting. Sometimes both. The collpase of the Peso in 1994 was extremely important but absolutely no one in the U.S. gave a schit. It was important but not interesting. The OJ Simpson trial was extremely interesting to most people but completely unimportant to anyone's life, save the people directly connected to the case.

Understand now? :)

speeder 02-23-2021 04:25 PM

If Tiger Woods crashed a car and walked away, it would be all over the news for a few hours.

Baz 02-23-2021 04:27 PM

I don't mind the story taking center stage but how about something substantial? Like taking a camera in a car and driving the same route he took and showing us how it looks from a driver POV?

That would be of interest to me. Not re-hashing the same crap over and over.

That would take imagination, Baz.

That would be one boring video. It's a long, sweeping downhill curve of a smooth, well engineered modern road. With nothing on the side of the road where he crashed. It would explain nothing, unless the video was shot by a car doing 80mph and crashing in the same spot.

Scott Douglas 02-23-2021 04:39 PM

I think it would help explain just how inept Tiger is at controlling a car.

Sounds more interesting than all the crap they are doing now......

Scott Douglas 02-23-2021 04:47 PM

My prediction: Too much speed + distracted driving (check his cell phone records) were the leading causes.
