Good luck with your choice.

I don't get it. If you bought a cell phone wouldn't you get a protective cover for it?

No

Some phones have immune systems.

People have immune systems.

IDK why some cling to the narrative that we are so damn fragile.

So you have committed yourself to getting each new variant shot as well, regardless of any effects ?

I am happy to have received the J&J shot last week at 64.

I don't know of potential effects and I'm not saying they don't exist.

I would receive subsequent vaccines. My fear of dying from this stuff outweighs the fear of an ill effect down the road from a vaccine.

Not sure I understand what you mean here since the main problem with Covid deaths is our immune system working too hard not from not working hard enough.

American exceptionalism is hard to define in scientific terms but there is plenty of cultural phenomena for observations about it .

What else matters???

According to whom?

"...n the U.S., the shot has shown 72% effectiveness at preventing Covid and 86% effectiveness at preventing severe illness and death from Covid, according to data submitted to the FDA. For perspective, Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid vaccines, which both utilize messenger RNA and require two doses given a month apart, are 95% effective at protecting against Covid..."

As a gamer I can say that you need to re-arrange how you think of this.
In games I take the time to view defensive stats flipped around in order to find the true protective properties.

A magical ring granting a 93% chance that a spell cast against you will miss is a 7% chance of taking a hit
A lesser magical ring granting a 86% chance that a spell cast against you will miss is a 14% chance of taking a hit

Your risk of taking a hit is 100% higher at 86% vs 93%.
As a gamer I see double effectiveness granted from those seven points.

When I say "immune system" I mean that broadly, and not only immune response. Our bodies have more than one way to stop viruses from becoming problematic. The over-(immune)response was the story early on, but we know children don't have such a problem, for example.

My larger point is, not everyone needs (will benefit from) getting this vaccination. If under 50 what are the odds that this virus will have problematic symptoms? And isn't that the whole reason for masking everyone? - you might have it and not even know it.

I think that 3rd_gear_Ted makes a fair point - Single shot, Johnson & Johnson = 100% not dying.

The other vaccines are touting that you won't even catch it, or something like that.

I think it's pretty cool that there are choices. Of course those choices comes from America paying for production of all of these before they had proven efficacy. (bold move, that. And I won't say who gets Yuge credit for that, as I don't want to induce seizures in the PARF sensitive. - we don't yet have a vaccine for that. ;)

It may be a wait before the other vaccines are available and I am considering the AstraZenica.
It's efficacy is 60-70% but is reported to reduce hospitalization and death by 80%.
Having (usually) mild asthma symptoms I am ready to jump on the first vaccine offered and it looks like this is it. I also work in education and do in person labs.
As mentioned, it's efficacy is reported to increase to 80% if the second dose is pushed back to 16 weeks.

I'm on a waitlist for a AstraZeneca vaccine. They're targeting ages 60-64. I'm 61. In Ontario they only have roughly 192,000 dosages of AstraZeneca for Ontario until April 1st. If I don't get an appointment I guess I'll have to wait.

Before you quote X% versus Y% efficacy read this article.
