What keeps you from going out and shooting a bunch of people?

Let's not get into any politics here.

I just want to know why you personally will never in your life grab a gun and shoot someone, like the guy did in Boulder for example.

What makes you different from him or any of the other "mass shooters".

I'll start.

I was raised to differentiate good from bad.

Killing is bad.

That is the bottom line for me.

Good vs. bad.

Fairly simple.

How does "because I don't want to" sound?

But obviously a small minority of mental ill people do.

Do you remember when that maniac who killed 50 unarmed Muslims in New Zealand?
- I'd bet if you could talk to him he'd be able to tell your exactly whey he did it.

IMO A big part of the problem here is how the media portrays these events.

Well, it'd be very loud. Shooting guns indoors without ear protection isn't like what you see on tv or in the movies. It's unimaginably loud and smoky.

Hmmm. What else? Oh, I know. I don't want to die in prison. I don't ever want to hurt an innocent stranger. I don't want my actions to be used to further the gun control agenda. And, well, I really like going home to my wife each night.

I suppose, if I were terminally ill and had no family left, if I wanted to go on a murderous rampage, I'd make sure to target people who really deserved it. And they're not usually congregated in a public space at the same time without lots of armed security.

Because I'm not crazy.

I come to PPOT and PARF when I need to get away from the demons in my head.

mattdavis11 03-25-2021 06:46 AM

Moral compass.

It's easier to cast a line, offer help, set the hook, and throw them back, only to come again. I'm no preacher man, just a salesman.

herr_oberst 03-25-2021 06:46 AM

Because it would never occur to me to want to do it.

island911 03-25-2021 06:50 AM

Same as RL - because I can't find my ear plugs.

expatriot98 03-25-2021 06:51 AM

I don't have a right or desire to end or forever alter someone else's life unless it's defensive.

You come here to display your fantastic TDS plumage like a peacock looking to get it on... and you call that getting away from the demons in your head?

doug_porsche 03-25-2021 06:58 AM

Because
1) Its wrong. that do unto others thing. I don't want to be shot either.
2) my flight instinct heavily over powers my fight instinct. Distance is your friend.

Pretty much this. I have no reason to kill strangers as I don't hear voices in my head telling me some other race, religion, creed or club of people are evil and deserve to die.

I like to sleep in my bed, and I really like my freedom, but most of all, killing random strangers is just simply wrong. My parents taught me right from wrong at an early age.

Oh man... this thread is gonna be on the edge anyhow Baz so I'm sure my answer will push it right over the edge.

"You shall not kill"... I believe at some point I'll have to answer for the things I've done and it won't be to law enforcement.

island911 03-25-2021 07:07 AM

What keeps you from going out and shooting a bunch of people?

Well, a bunch of people have given me no reason to shoot them. Plus, I pay taxes for people to do those things. And if it's a bunch of people perhaps laser guided munitions would work better.

stevej37 03-25-2021 07:07 AM

My ammo is all reserved for the ground squirrels.

craigster59 03-25-2021 07:07 AM

1. I have a moral compass

2. Ammo is expensive and hard to get these days

Geneman 03-25-2021 07:13 AM

Excellent point! Cost of ammo and scarcity of it. Can't afford to.

The thing that struck me about the Boulder incident was that he bought the rifle six days prior to the shooting from what I've read. My mind went to "how the hell did he find the ammo?" I know that seems odd but it was honestly one of the things that popped into my head.
