No pain, no gain but it hurts like a MF...

This past week has been tremendous for me knee recovery. I took it easy but worked really hard doing my stretches and exercises. The muscles have total post workout pain (and it’s keeping me up) but I’m really happy (so was my physio) with the progress.

I can nearly straighten my leg without help, I can walk mostly normal. This week is way better than last week.

Great progress, Billy!

drcoastline 03-27-2021 12:41 AM

Keep it up. The hard work pays off in the end.

Right there with you. 4 months of PT after ankle surgery.

Keep it up. It really does work.

I've known people to openly malinger after knee surgeries when ad. Instead of a few months of pt it turned into 10+ months before catching a chapter...

Good work, keep going! Working through pain can be a little exhilarating when looking back at what you accomplished.

Way to go on the physio.
However I have found "normal "to be highly overrated. :D

Back on the boards soon?

Was at Sunshine on Thursday with my son.
Sore I still am today...

Good to hear that you are progressing. You forget how long injuries/recovery like that take to heal.

fxeditor 03-27-2021 04:58 AM

Congrats on the progress Billy!

The interesting part of this episode is uncle's consistent underestimating the injury
One day one, he said, "Probably a few days off the hill with ice on it."
Before surgery, he said, " Should be a 6 week recovery afterwards"

Meanwhile, 3 months to straighten your leg.
ACL/MCL seems to be a one year recovery.

I like to think of the pain beforehand but the current pain will wain. Once I get approved for another new shoulder, it will be 20 weeks of PT after a month immobilized in a sling. The sling is worse than the pain. No sleep, hardly a shower, and nothing to do but walk, walk, walk.

Outstanding! Keep it up.

My mom is still recovering from a hip replacement and my boss is recovering from major shoulder surgery. It's tough.

I’m surely tempted to get on the boards. I’ve spent too many weekends at the hill watching everyone else... I know better than to do it just yet... but I want to.

You sound like you've reached the danger period...advice here is don't push it. I once opened up about 4" of an abdominal surgery cut thinking I could move some 80 pund feed sacks before I should have. A lesson learned the hard way...

How are you weathering the storm out there, Unclebilly?

PT after knee surgery is a *****.
I had a bad tibial plateau fracture. Ortho told me he expected me to walk with a cane the rest of my life. 14 weeks of non weight bearing , then 6-8 months of PT.
The only time I had to take pain med, was before PT. They tortured me. I would cry.
After all was done, I lost 2-3% of flexion and about 10% muscle strength- but otherwise no lingering issues at all.
Walk, cycle, swim, climb, hike- all normally.
PT is a bear- but it is worth it
Good luck
gary

Pretty crappy timing for a part time rancher with a bad wheel in calving season for sure.
Hope he is doing ok and not over doing it.

unclebilly 03-29-2021 07:51 PM

Thanks for the concern guys. The storm didn’t produce any calves (often the buggers will calve during a snow storm just to make life challenging).

We had one yesterday morning... only 21 left to go. There are 2 that are imminent that we are watching closely.

The leg seems to be getting better daily, I’m ecstatic with the progress last week.

Glad you have progress!

I have a tendon / ligament thing that can really scream when inflamed. I started using a hard roller and it is a miracle cure.

You probably have better therapy than this but I wanted throw it out as I am super pleased.
