Lawnmower Projectile
So last Saturday I was mowing and ran over something that I didn't nor couldn't see. Turned out to be a metal wind chime. One of the bells got shot out the back and hit my leg right above the ankle and on to the side of the shin bone. My whole foot was numb for a bit then partially for days. Luckily the skin wasn't broken and it was just bruised all over. Walking was hard for several days. Now it hurts to wear socks.
Thankful for the flap at rear which I'm sure slowed the bell down and lowered the trajectory. Otherwise I may have needed a plastic nut. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1616951801.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1616951895.jpg |
OUCH!
Glad it got you where it did and not elsewhere... angela |
Ouch, indeed. Could have done without the 8x10 color glossy.

Rotary mower right?
That is why I try not to mow with others in the yard, especially kids. You never know what will be picked up and thrown out. That must have been a sizeable bell if it gave you that kind of a bruising. Glad it didn't get you in the eye. |
Almost forgot the windchime and the bell

Ouch. I had something, probably a rock get me once when I was a kid. Hurt and drew a little blood. I was in a miata one morning years ago at a light when a lawn guy with a weedeater flung a rock that got me in the back of the head. Stung like crazy.
You're lucky at such short range and with the rusty bell that it wasn't worse. |
Uncle lost a few toes with those things.

As we used to say in cricket "Good catch Matthew."

I had a Golf where the timing marks are under a plastic flip cap over the flywheel. After work at dusk I wanted to stealthily check the timing under a dark carport. No auto repair was allowed in the condominium complex and there was security walking around. With the engine running I leaned over and put my hand down for balance. The cap was off and I managed to stick a finger through the access port. Ping! Lost a fingernail from that goober but it could have been worse.

I have always feared having an object fly out and hit a child or someone in the eye. For a short period after high school I had a summer lawn cutting business. I cut a lawn that had some pea gravel scattered about. Two stones flew out and hit a parked car. On broke the passenger side window the other put a dent in the fender.

Technically not a projectile.

I once hit a rock about the size of a golf ball while cutting at our Apt. complex in the city. It hit the side of a van and punched a hole thru it! Guy stopped and turned around and came back. Then said it was a company truck and not his, so he didn't care. Got away cheap for once on that one!

Yikes. Last summer I had a rock zing out from under the mower deck and shatter the tail gate window on my van parked about 20 feet away. The glass was still in place but looked like a spider web till I touched it and it just fell apart.

The only mower stories i have are with old walk behind model L Gravely's. My dad reched down to turn the gas off and the belt took the end of his finger off. I found it in the grass and they sewd it back on. Last year my neighbor gave me another one i fixed it up. They had welded two blades together well i hit something and it broke at the welds throwing out three heavy as heck blade halves luckily i replaced the back of the deck with 1/8" steel the blades tore two 3" gashes in the deck. those things are a beast. I hit a softball sized rock once and it ripped it out of the ground and threw it about 50'. If you hit a root you better be holding on or itll break your wrists

Tetanus shot

Weed eater, rock to the eye. Happened more than once. You guys must have not had parents that made you work. Mowing doesn't get exciting until schit flies.
