In case it's of interest, here is a document issued from the US Navy during the period following WWII concerning behavior and policy of of US sailors aboard the ship my father was stationed on at the time, the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV - 31).

It's a scan, but the original document was worn and torn so may be hard to read unless you enlarge it a bit.

Well said Les. Lest we forget. Any documentary or war movie particularly WW2 gets my attention. If only Hitler had been assassinated early in the war it might have saved millions of people. So sad.

What Battalion were you with? I served with NMCB FIVE on Okinawa (Camp Shields) for a short time and then was farmed out to the Det in Adak.

I was assigned to NMCB40 out of Davisville, Rhode Island. I was a member of a small group known as "The Landing Party" made up of 25 enlisted men, one Chief P.O. and a Lt. JG. Our job once we got to Diego Garcia was to make preparations for the next body (about 125 or so) known as the "Advanced Party". They in turn took care of preparations for the first main body arrival, etc. Once the entire battalion got there we had about 800 enlisted, Chiefs and Officers. The largest Seabee battalion ever assembled! As they say, "the rest is history" !

What's the worst case? We'd be driving even better cars than we are now? What do you think - we'd all be wearing Charlie Chaplin moustaches and kimonos today?

There we are.

Yeah, everything would be just rosie, unless you were Jewish, gay, etc., then you’d just be dead.

My Dad was a Carrier Pilot at Okinawa -- I believe off the Hornet --VF-17 -Hellcats.
He never said much --except That many Kamikaze planes were not painted -- and the small ships caught hell when hit. Him and his buddies rarely spoke about it and to a man would say the heros were the guys who did not make it . Oh and if you asked any of em --they had no problem with the A bomb --He often said he figured he might of bought it if we invaded.

I can understand that... "The A bomb" saved a lot of American and Japanese lives.

And Nukes have ended more wars than they've started.
