Sorry to appear a Philistine to pen afficionados but I find the most comfortable and practical pen to use for writing and on site dimensioned sketches is the Bic GripRoller. Available in 4 ink colours, and if you lose one it's only cost 50 cents or so.

I started using fountain pens in grade school. Still use a Cross fountain pen to this day.

I've found that now matter how nice the pen is, my handwriting never improves. Kinda the same thing with golf clubs and my golf game. I can use the cheapest one or the best and the results are still crappy.

For me it's Uniball 207 Gel or Pilot G-2 Gel.

The free ones at the bank also work pretty good! ;)

I managed the backroom management consulting conference when Gillette bought Parker Pen some 30 years ago. Held at a castle turned event retreat in the English countryside which was beautiful. The Parker Pen people hated Gillette (Papermate) and the acquisition was going very poorly.

Anyway, we got to use a variety of Parker's as well as high end competitors as part of the whole event. Fine writing instruments are a waste on me as I write with my right hand holding the pen like it's my left. I appreciate the craftsmanship and elegance of a nice pen but I'm better left with Sharpies. Case in point, my signature now is just an up and down swoosh.

Ball point, favorite pen is a Zebra Z Grip. Gel, Pilot.

Semi off topic: I always think it's funny old people carefully writing their signature on self service checkout screens at the supermarket.

Been used everyday for the past 20 years.....changed the ink cartridge several times.

I like nice, heavy well made pens that write well, but I hate to hand write anything and barely do any more. My handwriting was horrible when I wrote all of the time. Now that I haven't written much by hand for many, many years, it's even worse.

And I've never been inclined to spend money on a "nice" writing untensil.

I had a cheap knock-off that landed in my possession at work once years ago. It had a nice heft and felt nice to hold and write with.

When I was bartending, I found a pen that looked like a Mont Blanc, but I'm sure was also a knock-off. It also wrote well and felt nice in the hand.

I had that same black Cross pen in University. I found it in first year and used it for six years to the point wear the body was pretty worn out. I lost it at my first job, which still annoys me thirty years later.

I use these at work, they are surprisingly good.

Since Joe Bob asked if I wanted to sell the damned thing, and since I couldn't take money for a piece of **** that never did write well, and since old age has made my hand shake...he's got it. A plain brown padded envelope is in Cindy's car. She'll stop at the post office on her way to do a bit of shopping. It contains a big fat black Meisterstuck in it's original box and with papers... For sure those "meisters" "Stuck" it to me when I bought it...:(

My kindergarten thru third year teacher drilled the cursive writing into us non-stop.
I can still write with a very nice style because of that....60 years later

The Palmer method...they tried, I couldn't adapt. Now wish I had. My mother used that style. Her penmanship was fantastic until she died.

^^^ I can still remember my teacher stressing how important it was to drag your hand across while keeping the same pen position. She was exactly right.

After mom died, cleaning out her house, I found letters her friends had written...beautiful Palmer method penmanship in all. Yes, it worked...

I used to have a "smart pen" back in college... it always aced tests and made it about four years into my second corporate gig before growing legs :(.

crappy hand writing = no pride in my writing

I can type fast and accurately. My writing looks like I failed 2nd grade.

I use the free pens from the bank. TD and Provident are the best.

I got one from the local ford dealer that writes very smoothly.
