How far to relocate a black snake?

A nice 5'+ one has decided he likes my back yard (lots of woods behind it) and sleeping on my A/C unit. I took it back into the woods, but not far, two days ago.... just didn't take the hint . I just missed getting him and he's now inside my A/C .... we have unfinished bidness.... thought I'd ask in advance.

I know with turtles... they must be relocated at least a few miles away. My truck is full of sandrock and I don't wanna move it.... so... just planning ahead.

As Mick sang....

You got to move, you got to move

Build a small island in your pond and let him live there.
The snappers would like some company.

We had this guy (or gal I can't tell) pass through our back yard.

I figure it is a right angle snake. It was harmless, so we just locked the dogs up since one of the dogs was barking at it and it climbed the brick wall facade of the house.

30 minutes later and it was gone. The dog were let out to sniff the area and be sure it was gone.

We had a good 4-5 footer around here that I caught in the chicken coop. I put it in a large plastic tub and drove it to a wooded area about 4 or 5 miles away. As far as I know - it hasn't come back around.

^^^ Definitely a left angle snake! My pup got a good sniff of him/her two days ago before I scooped it up and went to the woods. Yesterday it was sleeping on top of the A/C fan .... even when the unit came on. I figured it would just go away... but nope!

That's in a different county, but there is a 1 acre pond just 150' or so into the woods behind my house (not mine) .... but no snappers that I know of.

You know he snake wouldn't be so adamant w/o the presence of food.

AFA I know, any enclosure including an AC condenser provides all that a rat could ever want.

There are a couple of cats around (not mine), and I don't have anything outside to attract it... don't know why he's visited three days in a row now. I saw him coming from the woods initially.... perfect habitat for him.

There are acres of woods (plus a pond) behind my backyard just full of everything a snake could desire . I've been here almost 3 decades .... never had one decide to become a squatter. He's long and lean .... no food "lumps" that I can see. But I hear ya!

I only get rid of those that get into the house. If you have a snake there...you have mice (as they have to eat and only occasionally get a bird or frog in most places). When they get all the mice, they move on. I had a terrible mouse problem. Caught two or three a day in my garage and shed. After a couple of years, the black and rat snakes came. By the second year...there were no mice and by the end of that year, most of the snakes moved on as well (at least based on sightings). No new mice for at least a year.
