Costco fuel rationing

Tried to buy 120ish gallons of diesel at costco and the fuel attendant turned off the pump after 70 gallons. New policy does not allow anyone to fill up the in bed tanks. Explained that they would like to sell me the fuel, but new policy doesn't allow it.

Went to a fuel distributor for the rest. Most interesting thing about the whole situation. Road diesel at costco is $2.68, dyed non taxed diesel at a fuel distributor in south Phoenix was $2.71.

Red diesel is way cheaper than road use diesel in the UK. Only supposed to use it for farm vehicles and boat heating systems. If the cops see red smoke coming out of a road vehicle, the driver is in big trouble.
Our gas stations only permit a maximum fuel spend of £99, about 80 litres at current prices.

better buy some black dye.

It has been cheaper to burn taxed diesel instead of non taxed diesel in my off highway equipment(generator, tractors, ect) until they won't let you buy large quantities. Kinda curious where that fuel is coming from to be so cheap. Fuel distributor gets their fuel from Texas.

Costco gets their fuel from the nearest rack, it doesn’t make sense to haul it in from anywhere else.

They can sell it cheap because it’s a loss leader for them, they probably don’t make much or anything on fuel which is why they are capping the amount. They want you to come in and fill your toyota up with 15 gallons and go spend $300 on groceries.

Maybe I am learning something new today, but the smoke that comes out of my backhoe, any diesel equipment I have run, my furnace at home, and when I run dyed fuel in my truck, has no discernilbe difference than non dyed on road fuel
It is the same exact fuel with dye added , and less tax paid on it
I think they only way you can get stung running off road fuel, is when they check your tank.
Then you get red in the face when you see your fines
Or if there is something I am not aware of , please fill me in

I did not see the ha ha ha in your post initially , carry on!

The cool thing about the red diesel is that when you fill up it takes a few tanks to get the diesel to turn back to the green dye. So jack up the tune on the Cummins and it's like a pride parade wherever i go! ;) ;)

Arizona_928 06-11-2021 08:08 AM

You're right though. It's only if dot/le dip your tanks.

As a practical joke, you can add a tiny bit of red fuel to your buddy's pick-up. See how he explains the pink smoke...

What keeps you from leaving costco and coming back 10 minutes later to get your next 70 gallons? Do they actually monitor for that kind of thing?

Good question.
They have 2-3 lot attendants walking about. I think they saw my truck taking 4 times as long as a normal beater box and went to look at what was going on.
I tried stalling on the fuel dude by asking a ton of questions while the pump was running.... He got tired and turned off the pump.

I don't like trying to buy fuel thinking I'm doing something wrong. Fuel distributor were very nice and even pumped the fuel for me. I'll go back to them bc they didn't make me feel like an ******* as i give them a couple hundred bucks.

You have it all wrong...
When you see someone roll coal and red smoke comes out of their tailpipe, it's a sign that a new King of Douches has been chosen.

What sort of vehicle is taking 120 gallons? If it were me, I'd visit Costco twice (or two Costcos) or pay the higher price on non-red fuel.

As you may not know. But as the diesel is red. The smoke is pink. Which means one would be the queen of douches...

28 gallon tank and 100 gallon in the bed transfer tank.

Phoenix only has one costco that sells diesel, the other is Prescott. You're kinda boned, but they are consistently 40 cents cheaper than the pumps in town.

Sebscst 06-11-2021 04:38 PM

Just use two different credit cards, bank card the pumps don’t know the difference.

That may trigger a fraud alert. BTDT traveling with two cars with a friend, gave him one of my cards to fill up after I started. Card was declined. Capital One said 2 of one person's cards used at the same place is most likely fraud.
