Cool sets!!! The pics of the wrecks were real, it was cool that the cars ended up like they did. Lol.

The old brass handbuilt cars were awesome but difficult to build and solder, later the flexi steel chassis cars made 1/24 scale slot racing cheaper and easier.
Had this Hillclimb track in the 8 car garage for a couple years. Track took up a 4 car garage. On race night the 20+ racers and the 8 banquet table pit area took up the other half of the 8 car garage.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633443545.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633443555.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633443564.jpg |

Way cool.
I grew up playing with Womp Womps and brass speed cars at Circle T Raceway in North Hollywood. I still have a couple of Parma controllers somewhere with the huge heat sinks sticking out the tops. Nice lady named Harriet ran the place with her son. Some cool tracks. Sadly the building fell apart, the roof leaked when it rained. AFX and Strombecker 1/24th scale were my home setups. Steve Foster in Santa Maria is a friend of mine. Next door to his Collision Center he has a few nice slot tracks and dragstrip that were saved and kept in great shape. They get a decent crowd racing at Fosters. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634196741.jpg |
Anyone ever play around with tether cars? I've seen some videos about them and thought they were pretty cool. The speeds that they reach are astounding!!!

Yes before RC planes it was control line Cox 049 planes.
I forgot how loud they were? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1QD625kt0FA" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> Before RC cars had these for a short time. Cox 049 funny car, string it followed would break, should of used wire. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/smOmWK1MSw4" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I had this when I was in 5th or 6th grade. I played with it till it was used completely up.
I know I got 319 dollars worth of fun with it. No regrets! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634268268.jpg |

Of course I couldn't leave it alone and painted the tires and exhaust pipe. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a1148a1fa1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c2a1b79465.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...997379ee4f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...aa0acf1f09.jpg Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |
Cox made some fun toys for boys.
I had the Orange Baja bug version. Later we added a pulse RC servo for steering control. Drove my dad crazy the little pull starter would break and dad would drive me over to a Cox repair place in near by Costa Mesa to fix it. This toy probably lead to me having 40 real VW bugs from 16 to 40 years old. lol http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634305035.jpg |
I used to have Cox/Testors control line models. My father was heavily involved in control line team racing. He went to Belgium (1972?) for World Championship competition.
We also had an 049 powered ground-effects vehicle. You would fire it up and it would pretty much bounce off the curbs in the street, since there was no directional control. Good times. |
Now it might be a $400 plane to a person from Texas. :)
Exhaust pipe looks good silver. HobieMarty did you have a Hobie Cat? I had a 16 and an 18. Towed the 16 with a 240Z with a license plate surround I got at the Hobie dealer. It said "Hobie Cat have you got it up lately?" Kind of risque back in 1982 lol. Quote:

Funny the liability, this like a street blender on wheels.
