When they do end, there won’t be a “tsunami of evictions”.
That’s just political nonsense/manipulation of the gullible.
For the people who are evicted, the vast majority will be people who long deserved it.
IDK why, but politicians and other non landlords bizarrely believe that landlords are in the business of evicting decent tenants.
That’s not how the business works.

will it be extended until the bulk of the renters can go back to work?

There shouldn't be unemployment in this country. There is a huge amount of work to be done. We fly in people from overseas to pick fruit and milk cows. And our unemployed sit on their arses (smoking dope/cigarettes/meth') just a few kilometers down the road. Covid means we can't get the pickers from overseas, so the fruit and vegetables are rotting on the ground, so we import fruit and vegetables instead

I have no knowledge about NZ but interesting that we have the same issues. Who are being flown in to pick fruits? From other poor Asian countries or the poor from Africa or the Middle East? Your unemployed are New Zelanders, not immigrants? Do you have issues with illegal immigrants?

Sorry for going off topic.

People picking the fruit and vege's. They are from Vanuatu and Samoa. Our unemployed tend to be kiwis. We have middle eastern people arriving. they don't seem to want to work but their kids are absolutely wonderful - smart, keen, mix well, lots of fun. I personally like the illegals, they do work others don't want to do and are very happy to be here. they really contribute. They tend to be Samoan, Chinese and Indians.

We have several rental properties.
All of our tenants have paid their rents (almost always on time),so we have no problem.
As for those who have not, if they are POS's, here is an opportunity to get rid of them.
If they are good tenants, work with them to get what you are owed.
We are all in this together.
Humanity has prospered because we work together.
If it is everyone for themselves, the end is near.

Would need a time machine for that scenario.

Last , night while mowing grass, I decided, that I am just going to list our house with her in it . I am going to push her from every side, angle, and from the top and bottom , all at the same time.
I have been patiently waiting out the moratorium for 6 months now . It is beyond criminal. They are officially the enemy at this point , and putting a hold on my financial future
I have played by their rules all along, and they fk me at every turn, now we are playing by mine .
I gave her verbal 6 months , and official 60 days notice to move out . Her reply is basically " fk you Fred, you cant do nothing to me "
She is s8, she will easily find another free place to live, only , it will not be half as nice as what we gave her .

I am not talking about the merits of any ideology or belief system, but of the polarization of the USA and increasingly the world.

The political reality in the USA is divided and conquer..Neither side can agree on whether it is day or night..

There is no longer any TRUST..and as I have mentioned since 08, trust is the glue that holds Democratic systems together..

So from that observational reality you tell me what what the future holds?

You as Property Owner ARE THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE...and your wealth is being shared/redistributed to the less fortunate among us. Instead of btching and whinoing you should be proud that you can share some of your bounty.

You see you have something that can be taxed even in a tangential fashion of a rent moratorium... and the system will continue to grab what you have until you have nothing, because they are desperate and are grasping. .

It is not that I hate a compassionate world that the Socialists so eagerly promote..it is the delusional quality that is dysfunctional in the real world that I take issue with. For a group of people that promotes a secular society and rationality as the hallmarks of their belief system they sure have stripped some gears there.

In Fred's case and others like him this is true.

Directly quoted from California Assembly Bill 1199 proposed earlier this year, a “privilege tax” on rental properties:

“Existing law imposes various taxes, including taxes on the privilege of engaging in certain activities.

This bill would impose an annual excise tax upon a qualified taxpayer, as defined, for the privilege of renting or leasing out qualified property, as defined, in this state at a rate of 25% of the gross receipts of the qualified taxpayer that are derived from rental income.

The bill would require the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration to collect the tax pursuant to the Fee Collection Procedures Law and would require all amounts collected, less refunds and administrative costs, to be deposited in the Homes for Families Fund, which the bill would create. Upon appropriation, the bill would require that moneys in the fund be used for specified purposes relating to rental assistance, homelessness, affordable housing, and housing counseling services.”

What an odd question Webb.

Anyhow-probably, now you can go waste more of your stimulus money in Vegas or some more tattoos.

So, to many it’s no longer “property rights,” it’s “property privileges.”

You know, you didn’t build that. You didn’t earn that. So you have no right to it.

A privilege tax of 25% of the GROSS rental receipts. Lol.

No, that’s not from The Onion. These are things seriously proposed by real elected officials.

Party like it is 2020

A couple of months back I looked around and saw that the Levee of societial and political madness had broken and there was no use in trying to stop it as where do you begin..

Thus "I don't talk to dead people anymore..it is of no use."

At that point I wanted to go off grid and or make as small of a profile as I could in the world. Let the raging waters flow around me...

On of the things that I just do not get is how you BOyz talk about retirement, your 401K's, Equities and or other investments..as if you think with certainty that they are going to be there? HOnest to God you don't get it, it hasn't sunk in....nothing is certain, especially since 08. 2008 showed you nothing. I found when my Mom we dieing that we control nothing..we are at the mercy of the Gods of fate.

Liberals think RICH NATION, WEALTHY NATION...that is NUTZ..how much more bluntly, shockingly can I say it? That the well of riches is endless.. That might have been true in 1965 but it certainly is NOT TRUE TODAY... America has been living on BORROWED MONEY since the 1980's. Today some 84T in NEGATIVE NET WORTH...you figure out what theat means.

Then the Conservative as much as they think that they have not partaken in the spending orgy have reaped the rewards of the system by availing themselves of opportunities that otherwise would not have been there..so they too have lived better and higher than if the nation had been prudent. So their moralization's about the depravity of the teaming masses fall on deaf ears with me. Conservative got theirs and let the party go on unabated.

Now the day of reckoning is here..I could say it is coming soon...but there is too much instability happening at too great a frequency for that to be true. Scenes from Dante's Inferno are becoming all to frequent, and pervasive. You are being inured daily so that the craziness is seen to be normative It is apparent in what you talk about and how you talk about it. ..you do not even realize you have been driven crazy, because you don't even mention nor recognize the elephant in the room.

So where is the line in the sand and you say enough is enough and face reality..that America is broke as a whole and what you think what you have in your bank accounts is really an illusion. It has all been leveraged folks...I put my bet down a long time ago..in 1980..THAT YOU JUST CAN"T DO IT..you will take it to the bitter end where the shelves are empty and the sign on the door says Closed gone out of business. At that point you will have to realize that you have nothing...I suppose you could rattle the door out of frustration demanding to be let back in..but that won't do you no good because the store is empty. Vacant..all the goods have been sold off long ago and who do you complain to? I suppose it will take a coupla days of being hungry and cold for the realization to sink in that what went on before is gone and you will have to start looking for food and shelter..to survive.

It doesn' t matter how much you have...the collective American economy let alone the Global economy dwarfs any personal fortune or combination of personal fortunes..To survive another day personal fortunes have been thrown under the bus and have been chewed up..along with everything else. The USD is the ALL INCLUSIVE CURRENCY IN THE WORLD..indispensable and when they started fking with that you might say they were playing Russian Roulette with six loaded chambers..The leadership was too myopic to understand, they were thinking locally about how to return the US economy to an equilibrium and not about the broader implications. That is why it was such a shock to them when it was brought to their attention in 2013 and they had their Taper Tantrum as a result. Now it doesn't matter anymore..you are dead and don't know it yet. So might as well party like it is 2022...a mad frantic party born of desperation in search of personal salvation. For at some level all realize the light is going out.

And then the idiot Kalifornia socialist will wonder why there is a housing crisis when the rents go up 25% and/or the landlords will sell or burn the place down.

The problem with Socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money.

The issue here is, everything is under rent controlled. That means we bend over and just take it. Apts or any properties (single family homes) that are under a business entity is subjected to rent control. That means you aint gettin' siht on but a few percent on the next year's rent increase. This whole redistribution of wealth is such bull.

What did you expect to happen...it is a desperate run to appropriate money from anyone and everyone who has means to finance a BK system for another day. Until all resources are expended...expect to be robbbed..ahhh I mean taxed.

So being the lil pig with the brick house means nothing to the wolves it just means another morsel for them to consume.

Ahh but the moral hazard is that you consumed at the trough of plenty along with everyone else..by letting the party go on unabated. As long as the money was comin in all was well with the world..Now the devil is demanding his due...from you

They have..and they are...coming to appropriate your last pound of flesh..Bon Appetite..

Socialism has won...not with a bang but a whimper of desperation. All in order to maintain a social equilibrium...in a bk nation.

As water seeks it's level so you will find your true level of prosperity...remember I said everything you have has been leveraged..and you have nothing..Well?

I don't suppose you will go out quietly but kicking and screaming with outrage at the injustice of it all. How could they do this to me?

Well they have and they are..

Ps: Raise rents by 25% and they get 25% of the rate inrease. Then following the example of the Peoples Republic of Santa Monica they will impose Rent Control.

I propose CA make Jane Fonda it's Queen.
