Labor shortage

Biking this am and decided to stop into my fav bar and grille for lunch and beer.
I get there at noon and the front entrance door has a sign on it....."Closed until 4pm do to staffing level"

I understand the 'worker shortage'...but the spelling? (do..due)

Just pray that whomever does the signage doesn't also do the cooking.

The guy who showed up to make sandwiches for drunks... not a typical rocket surgeon there.

stevej37 07-10-2021 03:39 PM

It's too bad because they have the best grilled prime rib sandwich ever.

I'm going to say decriminalize xyz. Put all those felons on probation. There's your influx of former slave labor to line cooks. The private prison industry might not agree though.

Leave a message "I was here do to thurst" and see what comes of it! ;)

I'll be back again...it's sad they can't find enough workers.
Their food and service is always great.

At which point - Steve blipped the throttle of his E-bike and motored off down the road... :)

^^^
I remember seeing that movie when it first came out.
My parents were not happy about it...I was only 15 years old!

After waiting for 45 minutes for the PU truck to get the inside cleaned and vacuumed after it was run through the car wash - I asked the manager on duty how long it SHOULD take. He apologized and said 14 minutes. He normally runs 5 teams and only had 2 teams working this AM - on a Saturday. In his words "everyone wants to go over to McDonalds and get paid $15 an hour." I didn't bother asking what he was offering to pay....

Explore the possibilities.

I have a different take on some of what has happened. I am seeing the help wanted signs, so I asked a Manager of a restaurant I frequent what was happening, how they are doing.
The higher minimum wage had led to more caution of who they select. Alot of people with credit problems, internet bullcrap, bad politics, etc., just pure bad resumes all around. If they have to pay more, then they are being real selective. The new breed of potential employees can bring a lot of crap into your Company. If you have to staff, it is best to pick carefully.

I joke about using a mirror during the interview. If you put it under their nose and it fogs up they are hired!

jyl 07-10-2021 09:39 PM

The higher end restaurant I got to most often (right by my office) says a good number of their former staff, and others who normally work in similar restaurants, left the food industry during the covid shutdown - found other jobs, changed careers.

Arizona_928 07-10-2021 09:49 PM

I guess the real question.
If you were making good coin and laid off due to covid. You're not going to be going back to a min wage or a min + $2 job.

Any takers here on those jobs? I know a lot of high school kids that would enjoy that type of work though.

So you discriminate against the mouth breathers! What if they have bad allergies? You must be a nose breather snob!
