To me, it seems like all shipping is getting worse.
At the old work place, we would have parts fail on some of the computer systems. The contract was they would be replaced by the next day. They were typically shipped FedEx overnight, 10:00am delivery. But they would always get hung up between Minneapolis and La Crosse, and arrive the second day about 2:00pm, on the same truck as FedEx Ground deliveries.

The wife got a wrong UPS delivery this week. It wasn't UPS's fault, it was the shipper. The seller has the buyer's name and address printed again on a corner of the packing slip, and it looks like they cut that corner off and tape it to the outside of the box. Then they fill the order, put the slip in the box and tape it shut. Then affix the label to the outside, covering the little piece of packing slip. Well, they were close. My wife's first name and the first name of the other person started with the same letter, and the last names started with the same letter, but that's where the similarity ends. It didn't stop someone from slapping the wrong label on the box. I wonder if the other buyer got my wife's order.

I called their customer service and they emailed a barcode to print a return label / Call tag. My wife used her AOL email for this, and I found out she has over 30,000 unread emails.

FYI, UPS "access points" do not have printers to generate return labels, so I had to drive another 20 minutes to a UPS store to drop off the box. You'd think they would let you know that on their website.

Bonus. They won't ship her package until they receive the old one back. That means even if they get it back on time, that's a 10 day window of return time / ship time, and we will be on vacation when the replacement box arrives.

So, I emailed a query to their customer support portal. In return I get a message stating that there is no help to be had at this email so go to a different one. They sent me to a page of FAQ's! No links to post to. Fark me.

Newark NJ lets kids vote in school board elections

What could possibly go wrong with letting 16 year old kids vote for the school board?

Do I need an adapter to use charger and laptop in Canada? I know the voltage and Hz are ok but what about the plug?

Same here as at your home. Travel with confidence. What part of the frozen north do you expect to visit? If Nova Scotia, PM me.

Thank you...I have no fixed plan. I'm just going to wander around the great NE and if I cross over then I will be in touch.

After 48 hours the intensive search of the river with boats and helicopters was scaled back and an RCMP helicopter has been doing a search pattern every few days. Given the winds, tides and geometry of the river, there's a chance remains will end up on the opposite shore.

Well, I was wrong. They ended up on this shore, just a half mile away. There was a flurry of activity just down the road and when two RCMP officers drove into out yard and asked if they could fly a drone, we were told what was going on. The body was recovered and now the family will have some closure.
My grandchild and I did a beach sweep last weekend and were within a couple hundred yards of the site of the recovery.

History Haven (Via Facebook)

The outlaw’s lifeless body lay stretched out before the camera while three armed lawmen stood nearby, creating one of the most chilling images left behind from the violent end of the James-Younger Gang. The photograph shows Clell Miller after his death on September 7, 1876, following the disastrous Northfield bank raid in Minnesota. Miller had ridden alongside some of the most feared outlaws of the post–Civil War era, including Jesse James and the Younger brothers, as the gang carried out robberies across the American Midwest. But in Northfield, everything finally collapsed when ordinary citizens fought back instead of surrendering in fear.

What was supposed to be another successful robbery quickly turned into chaos in the streets of Northfield. Armed townspeople fired from windows and alleyways as gunfire erupted across the town, sending horses crashing through the streets while outlaws desperately tried to escape. During the violent confrontation, Clell Miller was killed along with gang member Bill Chadwell, bringing sudden death to men once considered nearly untouchable on the frontier. In the aftermath, townspeople gathered around the fallen outlaws while photographs were taken to document the event. The image of Miller’s post-mortem body with three lawmen standing guard nearby became part of the haunting legacy surrounding one of the Old West’s most famous failed robberies.

Even today, the photograph carries an eerie emotional weight because it captures the exact moment outlaw legend collided with brutal reality. The man who once rode fearlessly beside Jesse James now lay motionless beneath the eyes of armed authorities and curious citizens who had survived the violence. It marked more than the death of one outlaw—it symbolized the beginning of the end for the James-Younger Gang itself. And when you look at the image of Clell Miller lying silent while lawmen stand watch nearby, it raises one haunting question… how quickly can fearsome legends disappear once ordinary people finally decide to fight back?
