Wow, I'd apparently missed that story the previous time(s).

It's one of those stories that now you think, "wow, you played with those balls until they were worthless. Just imagine if you had kept them pristine." But, as a kid in that situation, why wouldn't you play with them. That part is not surprising at all to me, that you played with them until they'd fallen apart. Hell, that's probably a much better use for them rather than having put them under glass for years until you could sell them.

In 1989 I worked with a guy in his forties who had a shoe box containing baseball cards. He got it as a child when an old man across the street passed and the widow gave the box to the boy's father. These baseball cards were different from today's. They were smaller, but much thicker. I recall these three players: Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

Just checked ebay closed sales and there is a pretty wide range pricewise. Getting authenticated might be a good idea if you want to net top dollar.

Yea, I have kept it over the years as I figured it was just kinda cool to have a Babe Ruth ball, but if I can sell it to someone who looks at it in their collection and appreciates it I think that's a better home for such an item.

I wouldn't want my old 911 sitting in storage because someone wasn't into car but wanted to keep it... these things deserve to be appreciated.

I will have 2 letters of authenticity for the balls. The value is hard to pin down, worth is what the right person is willing to pay. ;)

How I happened to know that David lived in our coastal town was when I went to Flagler Avenue Pizza and the young man behind the counter was wearing "The Sandlot's" baseball cap, signed by David. In November 2019, there was a private screening of the classic movie, "The Sandlot", in New Smyrna Beach at the Brannon Center, hosted by Dave Anders, and Linda Witzel of Anders & Anders Financial Group. It was truly a very special evening. David, along with his brother, Scott Evans, told us about the background of the movie and some insights about some of the beloved characters, including "Beast," the dog. David and Scott also answered audience questions and signed special posters as keepsakes.

I will have one for each ball, I have 2, one the Babe Ruth ball the other just a Tigers team ball from 1935 I think.

I am looking into how to best certify the ball and how to best appraise the ball. I would hate to sell. $40K ball for $4K. lol
