I'd definitely have a pro install the seat covers, but you want to have them basically match, and use the same OEM quality durable leather and fabrics. A great uphostery shop will build the foam back up so that the seat is as good as, or better than new.

The guy I use is really good and surprisingly affordable. He did the headliner in my Cayman last year for $175. It looks factory perfect. Everywhere else was close to $1,000.

He fixed the wear on my 280Z seat many years ago that had similar damage and just replaced the bad section. You couldn't tell it had been repaired.

Agree Toyota 4x4's are keepers and I absolutely love my Gen 2 4Runner too

I'd get a pro to fix it so it's done once rather than a make do and mend repair

My drivers seat is quite worn too, much worse than yours Paul. I bought a passenger seat as it's the same shape foam/upholstery in excellent condition and will just swap the covers over.

Maybe you can do the same with your seats?

Mike from wheeler dealers would get that fixed perfectly for $50 by a friend of his that he had never met before.

Just replaced my kid's 3rd gen 4 runner front seats last year. The driver seat is too far gone but the passenger seat would have been acceptable. Way I see it, he's going to keep it for a number of years, and the old seats are worn a bit thin. So I decided to replace them both. Best decision made. Ordered leather seat covers from e bay from a place in Texas. Had it installed by a local place for 200 each. How, they are thick and are not pulling stressing at the seams

I have a '94 as well. Great vehicle but is beginning to feel a bit underpowered. Bought it in '94 (used with about 100 miles). Always loved the grey cloth interior in mine. Still looks good as I approach 300K miles:

You could probably go to Pull-a-Part and get a replacement seat for pretty cheap.

Along these same lines, I have a co-worker who buys new trucks with cloth seats and immediately has them recovered in leather. He says he likes leather seats but doesn't see a need to buy the top model to get them. The recovered seats look completely factory if not better than factory.

I did that with my 2015 Tundra. To get leather and seat heat (which I love for long trips) I would have to move up to a package of options I just didn't need or frankly want.

I ordered leather seats for $1500 installed...got $350 for the cloth seats...a savings of over 4k from the option package they wanted to sell me.

I sent them pictures yesterday and they want to see it in person to get the match right. They will then schedule a day for me to bring it in if I want to use them.

They are 25 minutes away so it is worth stopping by and seeing if they can do it. We'll see.

They will replace the "bolster"...we decided I should buy the material after I mentioned the links from this post. They had the books I just wanted to match vin numbers, etc to get it exactly right.

One day, $200 scooters....no shipping etc.

They do a lot of cars and hot rods and showed me their work. Southern Maryland is actually a hot bed of hot rods and muscle cars.

The neat thing is that Kathy (the owner) has more miles on the clock than I do and got the patina vibe.

Look around their site. I bought everything from them, including the foam that was badly needed. Make sure its all leather some are partial with vinyl on the bottom or side panels.

I called them and they were able to match the color. Its pretty dang close.

I had a local leathercrafter replace the leather on the worn bolster on my 996. He replaced one section of leather with the proper grade of leather, then airbrushed it to match the rest of the seat. Before and after pics below.

Have you got the 3.slow V6 or the 2.4 diesel engine?

Mine is a 3ltr turbo engine, 123bhp and 5-speed manual gearbox not fast but keeps up perfectly well with modern traffic speeds and hustles well in the corners as I have OME upgraded suspension which is a great upgrade

My last 1000mile trip across Europe we averaged door to door 53mph which included stops and even a ride on the Eurotunnel train.

Only done 235k miles but rust has really taken it's toll so when it hits 250k it will be restored back to new for its next 250k miles of life. Will add some subtle upgrades like rear locking diff and some more luxury

I've got a great guy in the UK for spare parts, he dismantles around 30 of them each year and send the parts to all over Africa, they are very sought after out there as they just keep running and running. 4Runners or the more common JDM Surfs are very cheap to buy here compared to Europe

Just yesterday a delivery guy complimented me about my truck and his friend sells them to Pakistan again this era of Toyotas are more sought after out there than the newer Toyota's. Interestingly he mentioned nobody wants the FJ40's out there as they're now too old
