The "Karen" amount us

I recently listed some of my many parts for sale left over from my outlaw build. (Side note Porsche Monterey asked to feature the car inside their showroom at the recent Porsche Classic event on Monday.)

I have sold parts as far as Hong Kong, Germany, UK, East Coast etc and never had a complaint. I listed the parts without a price as I was looking to sell them at a fair price for the benefit of sharing with the community, not make a profit. Every offer made was accepted and all parts were sold. This was the first of three batches of parts, including full interior, orig, bumpers, engine parts, trans, radio etc.

One person did a local pick up and viewed the part and asked questions, honestly answered. This person was confrontational on the phone two days later accusing me of misrepresenting the part, which wasn't. Long and short of it, his complaint to PP caused my account to be locked.

And here's my point. Its is a shame that PP didn't have the courtesy to seek my side of the story but rather listen to a "Karen" and lock my account.

As a result, last week, I listed all my parts on Craigs list and another site, and all were sold or picked up by very happy P car enthusiasts, which was the point. Pass on the parts to support like minded people enjoying the process of working on their cars.

To the selfish Karen, I hope you are happy, especially since you have misrepresented the facts and only hurt the community.

No skin in this game whatsoever, but seems like if you'd put an "amount" on your items as required by the classified rules, then the ban would not have happened. Please see Post No. 16. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/1098236-cleaning-out-garage-70-911-e-parts.html

So I can see where the discrepancy was since it was posted on your for sale thread.

1. I always assume parts are sold as is. They are used. If someone says good working condition, I would think they actually tested it. Back to the buyer he should know the ins and outs of what he is buying or cover yourself with PayPal goods and services. If this was my situation I probably would have looked at how much a new t stat was and worked that out as a refund, but that's me.

2. I hate when sellers don't put prices or when they take them down. As a seller, research the going rate. Or put prices you think they are worth to you. Could I sell a 4 set of driver Fuchs for 1600, maybe. I could unload them faster at $800. If you hold out, maybe you get more money. If you don't care, put a price and say obo. Post prices - plain and simple. Also leave prices up so others can make an educated decision on how to sell their items or buy ones. Nobody wants to get taken for a ride whether it was a malicious intent or not.

if someone doesnt post a price i don't even give it a second look and move to the next item.. i dont care what it is.

This.

Doesn't appear to be a "karen" at all, just not posting prices per forum rules.

^^^THIS right here...I won't contact a seller to get information that should have been in the listing.

In this story you are the karen man. Why did you not just put prices as asked?

speeder 08-12-2021 09:54 AM

So we've got a guy who refuses to follow the #1 rule on the classified site, (for god knows what reason), sells a defective part as good and refuses to make it right and then whines here about a wimpy one-week suspension.

Did I miss anything?

Most of the people in the old Porsche hobby are cool but there have always been some cog suckers. I think we have one here.

Yes sir, and the other thing is when instead of posting a link to take you to another forum or page. If you can cut and paste the link, why not just cut and paste the entire post instead of sending you to another page

stomachmonkey 08-12-2021 10:05 AM

Just read the sale thread.

One week ban is insufficient.

A said above, always post asking price. Just like that, "asking price" is ________ My very successful father had a frequent moto: As a buyer - Im not pricing & buying too. Not posting price instantly conveys that the seller wants all the money and then some for ________.

Unfortunate that 1 buyer took what seems to be advantage of your generosity

And anyone who cannot spell the word "amongst" should be banned from PPOT. We have enough maroons here already.

Geronimo '74 08-12-2021 10:24 AM

If you expect an honest amount, why is it so hard to start with an honest starting price?
It’s right there in the forum rules, just post an honest price for the item.
Items sold without transparency always leave a foul aftertaste for all who missed the deal.
Post a correct price, first guy to respond with money has the deal, that’s how it should be, imo.

Sooner or later 08-12-2021 10:52 AM

Shocking. Seems there is a consensus!

I run our community Facebook Classifieds page.

4,000 homes and I have 3,000 members.

Our rules are, post a price, no auctions or "taking offers" and the order people express interest in the item on the public thread is the order that sellers go by.

If a buyer PM's a seller without expressing public interest they are not in line for the item and should be ignored.

It happens infrequently but rest assured when it does the buyer who thought they were in line and has it sold from under them reports the post to me.

I gently remind the seller of the rules and if they do it again I ban them, period, no additional warning, just done, bye bye.

I run the page as a volunteer service to the community and I'm not wasting time on people who have no regard for mine.

Sorry, not sorry.

For a start, using the Pelican Parts forums is a privilege, not an automatic right. And one of the first things to do is follow the rules (or guidance). Generally rules are made so it suits the majority.

I find it a PITA when prices are not listed. Ha, when searching for an item on the internet and the supplier says "Please contact for latest pricing" Well f*, isn't that the wholes idea of the internet that they can have up to the minute pricing at the touch of a keyboard.
