What Is This World Coming To
When you can buy Blantons at Walmart

Not in Oregon. Only the people's republic itself can sell hard liquor here...they make money selling it, they make money ticketing those who drink it and drive, they hire a bureaucracy to "rehabilitate" those who are alcoholics. It's a win-win, right?

But the truth remains..can't buy hard booze here from anybody but the state itself. |
What, in the name of all that is holy is a Blantons?
But more importantly - why is anyone surprised that the Beast of Bentonville sells anything? |
Elitism under threat.

You should be happy. At least it'll save you a second trip.

So let me clue you in..Blantons has such a cache in the Bourbon world that is allocated.(1 bottle limit).meaning it is hard to get.. Many retailers will mark up a $58 bottle to around $180. When it does rarely hit the shelves at Total Wine or othsr retailers it is gone within a couple of hours..news travels fast through the grapevine. Total Wine does not even.put it on the shelf nor front counter anymore..it is reserved for Club members in a lottery. So to see Blantons at a discount merchant like Walmart..where Blantons is beyond their pricepoint for booze..as they have in the past mainly carried mass market product that sells in volume is absolutely amazing.Quanity over quality. It would be like seeing Porsches being sold at a KIA dealership. Usually a premium brand once it starts being sold in a mass market outlet loses it premium cache. A number of companies have gone out of biz doing that.. Walmart and Sams as of late is carrying some of the more esoteric liquor brands.. I am still looking for Wellers and Stag Jr..Sazarac which owns Buffalo Trace distillery has a lot of in more demand than supply Bourbon brands. Btw..i dont think Blantons is all that special.. |

Sadly for many and good for Keith, his cues have now caught on. So the price is higher and the wait for one longer than when I bought in back in 2007. |
A few years back I saw an interview with the Sam's/Walmart alcohol buyer and their in house sommelier. Sam's/Walmart is the world's single largest purchaser of alcohol in the world. They basically control the alcohol price market. They buy up entire vineyard stocks at a time and not just the cheap stuff. They have warehouses full of high end wines In the interview they explained how Pennsylvania once the largest purchaser of wines in the world and controlled the wine market due to their ABC stores but now Sam's/Walmart has taken over.
I can only assume this is also happening in the liquor market as well. |
