spoon- looking for a maverick 88

not a shop within driving distance or online has a new one in stock. is this just how it is now? is there a best time of year to try to get one? do they make x amount for the year and when they are gone that’s it until next year? can’t find a 500 or 590 either

I think demand is far outstripping supply. On line “out of stock” is the phrase of the day. Locals have some supply but very limited.

I like older spoons ...

That being said, I was looking for a pump spoon a few years ago ... Remington, Mossberg, Ithaca ... didn't know for sure which?

I went into a couple of spoon stores (Gander Mtn. and another one), and looked at the new ones from Remington and Mossberg.... yuck . I wouldn't have wanted one if they were free.

Found an older Remington 870 after searching a while... a classic, that is in another league compared to the newer crap. It appeared in an ad on a spoonsight ... so I jumped .

I don't like spoons that feel cheap and unworthy of riding shotgun in my truck.... modern schit

^^ I hear ya. Im simply looking for a reliable home defense shotspoon. it wont be used much in its lifetime, hopefully, which is why im looking for the 88. for $240, seems like it will do the job i need it to do

if i get it and have fun with it at the range once and a while, the interest may develop into something more and ill be motivated to get more spoons that are fancy. thats what typically happens with everything i touch which is why my wife complains that I have 1,000 of everything :-)

I found my older 870 for not much more than that... 350ish I think it was. Whatever ya decide upon...

Fiocchi Defensive load 00 buck ...

Tames the recoil and patterns the 9 pellets in the shape of a football.... whether at 10, 20, 30' ... but you still gotta aim .

A "stopper" round for sure

Good luck with the search!

For Home Defense you want a short barrel.
Look at a Stevens 320 12 gauge pump. 18.5" barrel. Handles 2 3/4 or 3" shells. Made by Savage. Inexpensive and does what you need it to do.
