Well, it's a very prominent family in that area - and first - his son was the cause of a boat crash which killed a young girl. Then a year later his wife and the same son are shot and killed. Then it comes out that their housekeeper "tripped and fell" and died in their house. Then his own life is almost taken by a shot to the head.

It wasn't just the wife and son being killed that brought the attention. It was the fact of all the other very strange things that occurred in the family both before and after that caused all the attention.

Plus, the perps’ community involvement as prominent legal beagles goes back not to his father, nor his grandfather but all the way back to his great-grandfather. They lived on a 1700 acre estate in complete comfort and wealth.

The perp actually did some litigation in front of the judge presiding over his trial and they removed his grandfather’s portrait from the courthouse before commencing with the trial.

The perp screwed his housekeeper and law partners out of million$.

So this guy ruined idyllic lives for many people in a community of which he pretty much was a patriarch.

He's either accepted his fate or knows he is playing the long game of appeal. I think he will lose but we shall see.

I get all that but the fact that the jury came back so quick is an indication of how weak the case was for him to get off - so not really much of a 'cliffhanger' for most of us.....

I heard a lot of the evidence was a result of their phone's GPS tracking and video that the son took. Really highlights how we are all being tracked by our phones.

So a lesson learned here would be if you're going to shoot and kill your wife and son turn your phone off.

I just finished 'Devil at his Elbow' by Valerie Bauerlein. Highly recommended. Great read. The Murdaughs, without exception, were crooked prosecutors and lawyers for many generations.
