The Old Green Salad.

Can't beat it. Simple, healthy and delicious.

Who needs fancy kale when romaine still has a place at the table?

The radish imposters are a tasty add.

Where yah gettin' yer greens?
Most stores around here they be often mixed browns.

I'd probably swap out those purple bits for tomatoes.

Kale should be dried or fried, maaaaybe in a smoothie, I can't stand it raw in salad.

When Kale is fried in bacon fat, it makes it easier to scrape it into the trash...

Pro tip, if you like Caesar salad, that is real Caesar dressing, get a high quality dressing at the supermarket and spike it with anchovie and lemon juice in a food processor, maybe some garlic too. But be careful if you make a lot. A half an anchovy will be great in a cup of a fresh batch but it will marry as it sits in the fridge. If you like a Caesar dressing that will put hair on your chest, it's great. If not, just mix a little of the original store bought to tone it down a bit.

I've been enjoying Ceasar salads this year. I hardly ever ate one before.

If you’re going to make a Caesar salad, just make the dressing from scratch. It’s infinitely better.

That is a good waste of bacon

And it is simple. Alton Brown's recipe is very good. Use Parmigiano Reggiano and grate it at home. And use a good olive oil.

That salad needs crumbled egg, bacon bits, and croutons, smothered in Italian dressing.

What are good cheeses for salads?

javadog 10-19-2021 03:45 AM

Roquefort, feta…

herr_oberst 10-19-2021 05:33 AM

Havarti

a better question might be "what aren't good cheeses for salads?"

blue cheese, cheddar, etc.... are good.

About the only things that I can think of that might NOT be good cheeses for salads would be ripe, gooey cheeses like brie or maybe especially stinky cheeses like limburger or Epoisses de Bourgogne.

I like to be able to vary the salad dressing. I like cheese. I like purple cabbage, carrots, radishes, etc.... I also like nuts and/or seeds (sunflower seeds, pecans, etc...). I like a chopped hard boiled egg on a salad too. Cauliflower, bell peppers, broccoli, and cucumbers are also good on a salad. Sometimes meat is good on a salad, tuna, bacon bits (real), chopped ham, etc....

Whole Foods has a pretty great salad bar where you can build your own salad. They have things like roasted corn, roasted/cooked garlic.

Yeah, but I said "cheese" not "cheese food." ;)

But good call on those two, gooey brie, limburger, american slices and velveeta. Check, not good on a salad.

I grew up eating velveeta and American. But I haven't purposely purchased or bought either in many, many years (decades).

I love olives, but haven't put them on salads.

GREAT call on the avocados! I do regularly put avocados on salads, super yummy and healthy!
