Yep, this thread didn't need to have anything to do with politics. They never needed to be mentioned.

greglepore 10-27-2021 05:54 AM

Can we PLEASE keep the PARF crap in PARF? Start a thread over there about what dck Baldwin is if you want.
I go over there when I want to, but I'd prefer not to deal with the bs when I'm not up for it.

Actually, IMO, this is a huge story because of politics. Baldwin is an azz, but so are lotsa of people in Hollywood. No news there. But this story, because Baldwin is a political azz, it’s a story; it’s a story about hypocrisy, karma, incompetence, irresponsibility and greed.

this probably belongs in PARF, oh well

It does. Do the right thing and delete it.
But yes, it is hysterically funny and sadly true at the same time.

I don't think that has be confirmed. No one has posted a pic of the weapon used.

Exactly, if Baldwin wasn't such a political azz I think everyone would be concentrating on the tragedy and how accident's happen and how carelessness or recklessness by people can have unfortunate and deadly consequences. But it is a much bigger and different story due to Baldwin's political stance, comments and hypocracy regarding Cheney and guns in general.

The GLEE is sickening.

Crowbob 10-27-2021 07:56 AM

I completely and actually sympathize with people not wanting to endure political talk all the time and everywhere.

However, in my worthless opinion, political participation, even simple political conversation, is the cost of maintaining a representative republic, especially a constitutional representative republic. It is actually true and is presently being born out that tyranny thrives when good people do nothing.

We are where we are because way too many people don’t pay their dues. Democracy costs. If people don’t pay, it dies.

Some people conflate glee with vindication. Some people do experience glee at their nemesis’ tragedy.

However, many people ascribe ‘glee’ to someone else’s vindication because it absolves them from accepting a painful reality.

I don't think it was "cap and ball" as you wouldn't be able to fire motion picture blanks. It would take modification and this production doesn't seem like they would spend the extra money for that. I'm sure it was something like a Colt single action Army "Peacemaker" or similar.

Did not have a swing out cylinder like a Smith .38. They had to be loaded INDIVIDUALLY for each cylinder, some had to be loaded in the gun. Others could swap preloaded cylinders out when the previous load was finished. Cap and ball revolvers can be converted to use modern ammunition.

Not an easy kwik check. The responsible party was still at lunch....the dickless AD handed out the gun to genderless Alec.

I've said this before and I'll say it again - cap and ball revolvers are actually easier to check than cartridge revolvers. The percussion caps are very easily seen on the nipples screwed into the back of each chamber. If it's capped, it's "hot". Pretty damn simple.

IIRC a Navy incorporates a tamper or such ? below the barrel ..

craigster59 10-27-2021 09:16 AM

Here's an old article featuring my buddy Larry who is one of the top Armorers in the business and works with ISS in their weapons room where most prop masters rent their guns.

He explains the intricacies of using older guns, modifying guns and everything in between. THIS is an Armorer.

Yes, you are correct. The photos above were the only ones I could find quickly, and they are from a company that provides a conversion base pin kit that lacks the loading mechanism.

Here is my own Ruger Old Army. First, with the loading mechanism removed, then fully assemble. When loading, one simply pulls down on the long rod that is clipped to the muzzle end of the barrel, pivoting it so that it depresses the lard ram that protrudes through the base of the frame, over the lower chamber in the cylinder. This ram pushes the ball into the front of the cylinder, compressing the powder underneath it.

The long rod to the right is the one that is clipped to the barrel, that we grab and pivot to push the ram. The ram is the short fat one hanging down. The cylinder base pin is to the left.

One can se that it would also be pretty easy (and safe) to simply look at the front of the cylinder. We can do this without covering ourselves with the muzzle.

Man, those reporters are asking some stupid questions. And not asking some goods ones that need to be asked.
