State of origin of my '77 911S

Need help locating info on my 911. a 1977 911S sun-roof coupe, Sahara Beige/Cork Interior that I purchased in 2016 from an owner out of SC. He had purchased it from a Gentleman in Decatur AL in 2004 who had owned the car for many years and had lived in Sterling, Colorado before moving to AL. His name: Chuck Stapleton. I have tried to contact Mr. Stapleton but so far no luck since evidently he has moved several times. My COA nor Porsche of North America can tell me where the car was originally purchased ie. State, City, Dealer, etc. and whether Mr. Stapleton was the original owner.

Appreciate anyone who might have information about him or the car.

Thanks,

Posting VIN might help. My grandfather had a 77 in identical configuration (sold sometime in early 80's in NJ).

Any idea how old this Chuck Stapleton is that you're looking for?
If you trust any of those "mylife" "instantcheck" "whitepages" type of sites, it looks like there's a Charles Stapleton who is 70, has lived in Colorado and Georgia, and now lives in Cody, Wyoming.

But, and this is a big butt, those sites have a lot of wrong data. According to them, I'm self employed and make less than $50k/year. I bought my house for $36 dollars. None of that is true, so try to sort out the valid stuff.

I'm somewhat unique that there's only 3-5 people in the US with my same first and last name. They can't even get us sorted properly. There's apparently a lot of Charles Stapletons out there.

What does a carfax reveal? I recollect seeing some document on one of my cars that showed all owners going back to 1980.

All I can offer is that Stapleton is a big name in Colorado. Old Denver airport before DIA was called Stapleton International Airport. Sterling is in the middle of nowhere, the people in those areas with Porsche money have old money, oil and gas, land grant, etc so maybe it was owned by a real Stapleton.

As an aside Stapleton Sr was recently post-humously cancelled for historic associations with some racist organizations back in the day. They have changed the names of many things named after him.

Is it a California car? My 77 was originally from Denver but interestingly is a California car…

I used to live in Decatur (and lived about 20 miles from there during the time frame above) and was pretty active in the Porsche scene in north Alabama at the time and I don't remember that car or that guy.

That's not saying much, though. There are Pelicans in that area, though. PM me and I can point you to them.

There is no such thing as a Carfax for a 1977 car.

Carfax reports, (and the other ones like it), only cover 1981 and newer vehicles, which was the advent of the standardized 17-digit VIN system for all vehicles sold in the USA.
