Nice bass! I play guitar but recently played around with my daughter's bass. She taught me the whole bass line to Money by Pink Floyd. It's super fun to play. With a little work I'm sure you can get there. I highly recommend it.

Thanks, guys!! My son came over yesterday for his birthday and he played the bass (of course) and he loves this one! It plays so well and sounds so good coming through my Ampeg rig. Of course I reminded him that when I'm gone, it's his!

I like the neck on that thing, cool color, with a groovy pick guard. Sustain for days, no doubt

Great picture...did the prison guard take it? Not many get to play drums in their jail cell!
![]() Why did you retire from drumming...after 50 years you’ve finally figured it out? In any case...that’s a beautiful bass...enjoy. If retirement ever gets here, I’m looking forward to resurrecting guitar lessons abandoned decades ago.

Mike,
Thanks! I played the drums at church (contemporary service) almost every weekend for 20 years. The drums were enclosed in a plastic cubicle and then mic'ed to the PA system where the volume could be adjusted. I hated playing in that cubicle and having to listen to the others in the band through the headphones. I could easily control my volume but some of the other drummers couldn't, so into the "cone of silence" we went! My arthritis finally got to the point where it hurt too much to play, as playing the drums is physically much more challenging than playing the bass (at least for me, it is).

Cone of silence? Sounds more like a penalty box to me.

Years ago, I was gifted an electric guitar and a bass. The guitar just bugged me, but I liked the bass, a beginner fender something. So I sold off the guitar, and traded up the bass to a better fender something, for a while. Then one day, at the music store, up on the wall, just like Wayne's World, I saw it. And now, ever since then , yes, it is mine. A beautiful Schecter 5 string. I tell myself that I should get it out and play it, maybe I'll just get it out and have it handy so I'll pick it up, then I'll practice by accident. I like Scott's Bass Lessons, and Marlow DK, too Those guys are great inspiration. Thanks for the boost. When I get it out, I'll post a pic here, too.

Scot, Excellent! I can't wait to see pictures of your Schecter bass! I bought our son a Fender P bass to start and then a Schecter 6 string and he still has both and loves them. Schecter makes some very nice guitars and the luthier who set it up commented that it was a well made instrument (Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI).
This will be the bass I keep and pass along to my son when I'm gone. It's very special to me because David built it!

Hey Art, I think you might want to ask David if he loaned your new guitar to Brad Fordham to break it in for you:

His headstock is the same color as the body, but that's pretty close to mine!!

I have never built a bass from scratch, but I have swapped many parts and I really enjoy doing the "setup" on a bass to make it play and sound just right. Very satisfying to me. A couple of weeks ago, I did this to a Jazz bass with a massive improvement in playability. Setup is REALLY important. David probably agrees, and probably enjoys it like I do.

I like it. Beautiful color. Nicely done.
I am a PB player. My No. 1 & 2 are passive American Standards. One fretless. Both with rosewood necks. I feel more comfortable with the wider neck. Hope it is putty in your hands. Love the P Bass growl. Enjoy.
