Yellowstone could be a game changer- fortunately the events are hundreds of thousands of years apart.

Yes really bad for the Tongans. Has wreaked the place. 15 meter swells going over some islands.

It even trashed a marina and some boats in New Zealand.

I wonder what that does to the chemistry of the sea water. I've read conflicting reports about the chemistry. I imagine that there's a significant fish kill. At least it's impact on the air is lessened and the tsunami is not a deadly wave as others have been.

I'm starting to think the Earth doesn't want us on her anymore.

one big, sustained shrug and she can start over after she heals.

The Earth does not care anything about us. It has gone through multiple phases of ice planet - jungle planet, and molten surface. The planet will just keep on until consumed by the sun in a few billion more years.

For humans, it is amazing how much power is in one little volcano. There are 4 "super-volcanoes" in the USA alone. Yellowstone is just the one everyone thinks of.

As I recall, they're about 650,000 years apart. The last one - also based on my often-faulty recollection - was about 650,000 years ago.

I figure that gives us somewhere between about a minute and 50,000 years.

I think the most recent was 70,000 years ago, and they vary in interval and severity. The last "biggie" was 640,000 years ago. For now, we'll have to settle for the eruptions on the TV show.
