I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I can only imagine that the bear was after the dog. I would have thought kicking the bear would have been preferable to getting your face and head down close to it's face, head and paws.

He must have been scratched up...his wife said he started Rabies shots yesterday.

His Ring doorbell caught the whole thing.

Crazy. Fortunately, it was a small bear that wasn't that intent or it could have gone much worse.

His little fu-fu dog will never want to go outside again. :D

I never thought there were bears in Florida. Poor bastards must be very hot all the time.

Nostril Cheese 01-21-2022 04:24 PM

Thats what they call fighting a bear?

That's as close as I'd want to get to fighting a bear.

Fla. man fights off bear?

I thought this would go differently.

I thought he was very aggressive with the bear. He could have turned and ran inside.

That’s closer than I’d like to get to any bear.

thank all that's holy that you were wrong.

Yeah, that's close enough. I think he did quite well. I do think, however, that the bear just stumbled in there unintentionally and was just as happy to leave as the guy and his dog were to see him leave.

I've recounted this here before, but I've actually been ran over and knocked flat on my back by a black bear. In my case, we surprised one another, and all he was doing was trying to get the hell outa there. And I just happened to be blocking the "exit". And yes, I was armed, but it all happened to darn fast that I never had a chance. Which was a good thing. I cannot imagine how quickly it would have escalated had I been able to get the gun out and go to work. As it was, neither of us got hurt, and we were both able to enjoy the rest of our day.

Yes, we definitely have bears.

HobieMarty 01-21-2022 11:43 PM

I have seen black bears in the Florida panhandle less than a mile from the beach along hwy 30A, Blue Mountain beach.

Incredible that he didn't get mauled.

stevej37 01-22-2022 08:49 AM

^^^ Yes it is.
Going through Rabies shots will be fun for him...still better than dying.

I had the series of Rabies shots about 30 years ago. They are actually no big deal. It's, IIRC, 7 regular shots in the arm over the course of about 2 months.

stevej37 01-22-2022 08:59 AM

I thought I heard they are in the stomach.
Or is that if you have rabies.....and then are you able to live through it?

I think that was a LONG time ago. I'd always heard that growing up too, and when I had to go through it about 1990, I was pleased to hear that was no longer the case.
