Anybody try to buy tires lately?

I need new 305/50/20 tires for my truck and called three local places around town. One guy said he couldn’t get them and the other two did not call me back.

The Goodyear store could not get them, so I asked if I brought my own tires, would they mount them and they said yes.

So, I went to Tirerack and it was slim pickings for tires. I’ve been using the Michelin LTX tires and there are none available in just about every size. Only 18’s I think. I got the last four Goodyear Eagle GT2 tires available from Tirerack. Three are coming from Midway Georgia and the fourth is coming from Delaware.

Anybody else try to buy tires lately?

I was contemplating getting new tires back in September. Called my local place (I'm a BFG KO2 guy) and nothing available local but they could ship from Colorado with a hefty fee added. I asked about supply chain problems and told them I could wait and my guy told me there shouldn't be a problem around December.

I decided to try Tire Rack and nada. They did have some General Grabber ATX at $225 each so I ordered them since there was a $100 rebate.

They're still sitting waiting to be installed. Just checked Tire Rack and they're now $275 each with availability 2 weeks out. BFG KO2's are $282 and available 4/30.

Not auto tires but my company has tires manufactured for the go-karts we make and sell to amusement centers. We have currently about 25,000 on back order now and climbing every day. Argh! Going to be a rough summer with phone calls about tires.

It’s funny, I wanted the Grabber ATX for my Gladiator because they are a true 35” tire. I was told that it would be four months so I went with my second choice, the K02.

I have Grabbers on my VW Westfalia, they work perfect for it.

Thankfully I have not had to buy new tires lately. I do work with a few manufacturers and they are running 24x7 when they have the raw materials.

I bought some Yokohama geolanders for the 1 ton a couple of weeks ago.
3 peaks snow flake rated year round tire. Like them so far.

2 year ago, a set of 4 tires for the i3 were $600.

Last week the same exact tires were $900.

Woo!!!!

When I called the Goodyear store, the Eagle GT2 tires mounted and balanced from them were actually cheaper than tires only from Tirerack.

Because they’re now discontinued, they could not get them though. And they had no substitutes.

I hate that discontinued excuse. I bought some Falcon tires and then a half year later, half year, they said..."um sorry sir, they are discontinued"...Now I would probably think its due to bare shelves brandon...just saying.

I just got the Michelin AGILIS CROSSCLIMATE LT235/80R17 at Costco, is there one near you?
They show the LTX as well.

Wait, what? That sounds very cool. How about some photos

One of my kids has a Land Rover about 20 years old with 16 inch wheels. I recently had to get him a spare tire. Extremely slim pickins but that is probably down to size

If you guys would jump on the bus, you wouldn't have to buy tires ever again. I could go into further detail, but I think you get idea.

just purchased tires Saturday from Firestone for the F350. $1,400.00 when I went to pick the truck up, they didn't even have the courtesy to wash the blue off the RWL and exterior of the tires. I politely had them put it back in the shop and finish the job.

But, I had a customer request some cool liveries so I did a quick photoshop to see what they'd look like. Maybe he is a member of Pelican, lol.

I pinged a seller on BaT about what kind of tires he put on a Honda he was selling. Said they were hard to find in the Portland area.
Of course he put on the cheapest he could, but at least he did it instead of leaving the original's on the car. It was a low mileage, older Accord so would have been risky to drive on them.

Scott Douglas 02-09-2022 08:33 AM

These guys would go ape over those karts in a few years.

Not tires, but................

About a month ago, my clothes washer went kaput so the wife and I went looking for a new one. We went to the big box stores first and were told that they had nothing in stock and it would take about a month to get if we ordered something. Totally unacceptable so we trekked down to the next little town where there is a dedicated appliance store. There they had a large selection on the floor and several of the choices were in stock. So, we picked one out and it was delivered 2 days later. Cost of the machine, tax, delivery, etc was a bit over $1100. Three years ago this machine would have been about $700 per the salesman at the store! Fortunately, I've got fairly new tires on my truck and the 911. My wife's cars tires are about 2 years older but still have plenty of tread. The only one I really need tires for is a Jaguar XJS convertible that has tires about 10 years old but still with lots of tread. Don't you just love life?

My wife hit a pothole in West Seattle on Sunday in our S7, and cut the sidewall on the LF Continental Sport Contact. New tire time - ordered Pilot Sport 4S’ from Tire Rack on Monday, and they were delivered to the installer yesterday. Install scheduled for tomorrow. Don’t get me started on how bad the roads are around here…..Tough winter, for sure!
