Add me to the list of offering best wishes...sure does sound like a giant leap in back surgery technique...

stevej37 02-11-2022 03:14 PM

^^^ Thanks! Yes..they keep advancing the procedures.
I remember when a back injury meant laying in traction for weeks/months.

A simple way to look at it- you are basically putting a splint on the fracture by gluing it together. Then it can heal on its own.
Risks such as infection and the "glue" going to the wrong place and causing problems is rare.
One real risk- the glued vertebral body is "harder" than the adjacent bodies. There is, I have read, a small but real increased risk of fractures of the adjacent bodies. So, take care of yourself and treat whatever the cause of the original fracture- osteoporosis- etc.
I personally know several people that have had this done- with wonderful results.
Good luck

Doc says after he trowls in the cement, you'll be burning through solid rock in no time!

That's prob the reason why the Dr wants me to take a 'bone density test'.

astrochex 02-12-2022 04:16 AM

Good luck Steve.

So, no ski jumping?

Best wishes Steve!!

Mom had it done and it was like overnight magic. No pain. No more pinched nerves.

In the next few months remember to take it easy.
Unused muscles around the column will have to readjust to the new position.

Joe Bob 02-12-2022 10:16 AM

Can you sign your initials in the cement?

BTW, good luck....

stevej37 02-12-2022 10:50 AM

Dr said no ski..but bungee jumping will be ok.😀

Our group does several of these a day.
It will take your pain from a 10 to a 2 in an hour.
Pain is not gone, but much much better.
Complications are rare.
Statistically you will have a great outcome.
Good luck

Yay!!!! Outstanding!

Good luck, Steve.

Por_sha911 02-13-2022 04:46 PM

A friend had it done and it worked just like they said. No more pain.

WPOZZZ 02-14-2022 03:16 AM

My mom and my aunt had it done about 20 years ago and it relieved them of their pain.

Steve Carlton 02-15-2022 07:56 AM

Today's the day- hope it's a success for you, Steve!

Skip Newsom 02-15-2022 08:26 AM

^^^I'll second that!^^^

Hope it's very successful for you!

stevej37 02-15-2022 12:22 PM

It's done.
Thanks to all here for the 'well wishes!'
I went in at 7 this am ....2 hrs early because I needed the MRSA in my IV for at least an hour beforehand. (I couldn't get the mrsa swab test in time)
Just before they gave me the 'knock-out' stuff...I checked to make sure the two young nurses were both buttoned up good. I surely didn't want a distracted surgeon.

In the recovery room..as soon as I woke up, I walked around. Felt of my back and the spine was back to a normal curvature...instead of jutting out.
My throat is sore because of the breathing tube...otherwise I feel good. Tomorrow I will probably be a little sore in the spine area.

Walked out the front door at 11 am. Follow-up exam on Feb 25
