My understanding is that the guy who owns the hedge fund that bought Kmart bought it for its real estate and never wanted the retail business. That's why they never invested anything in the stores and let them wither on the vine. Last I heard the real estate play didn't work out and he lost a lot of money on the investment. Serves him right.

That sounds about right. The two stores around here are still sitting empty crumbling away. They were built on old landfills so they probably arnt allowed to build anything new there anyway I dont know.

One of my friends step father was always proud to tell the story of how he met my friends mother "at the blue light special at K Mart". :D

I always enjoy watching full length 1970's commercials, both for the nostalgia, as well as the sheer length of time they ran.

My god, they got to a 3rd or 4rth verse (and worked in a scuba diver?). A very holy-rolling extravaganza!
I also cherish thumbing through parking lot pics, looking for the elusive p-car... none here, but they are abound!

(I'd take that suburban!)

Almost all are American built cars, too. One little Toyota. Who would have thought.

And the era when American cars left a lot to be desired when it came to automobile design.

From my original post....I googled a pic of the Kresge store that I remember. Muskegon, MI
I forgot there was a Woolworths next to it.

We still have Woolworths and Target, but we've got K Mart here, too.

^^^ That looks to be a nice well-lit modern Kmart Store.

A local wallmart was converted to a grow house for medicinal pot.

Kmart missed the boat, could have converted vacant stores to grow houses. The one in Key West would have killed it!
