75th Anniversary

I celebrated my 75th on March 1 and thought I should tell you about it.
I haven't in the past made too much of a fuss for my birthdays but I thought since this was a milestone anniversary that I should have a few friends over.
These last two years of covid theater has been quite difficult for most of us, to say the least. I'm sure you all have stories of how covid negatively affected your life style.
So I decided to have a few friends over for an evening of chit chat.
I made up a list of guys that I would occasionally see and have conversations with.
I ended up with a list of 10 guys and extended an invitation to each of them, explaining that the evening would be no more than a get together for a bunch of guys.
Regulations and mandates are loosening up and I think the guys saw it as an opportunity to get out of the house and freely socialize with others.

They all accepted the invite and all showed up.
I think it should be pointed out that probably not one of the guess knew more that two other guys present, but in most cases they were able to put faces to names that they somehow had heard of.
The guys were from all walks of life. Some were retired, semi retired, business owners, hospital workers, nuclear plant employees, real estate flippers, garage owners, financial advisers, ex gov employees, ex bankers. A good sampling of who you get to know over time.
The munchies were meant to be quite simple with pizza, cheese and crackers and I cooked up a bunch of wings. I also offered bottled water. I decided there would be no alcohol.

Everybody seem to have a great time and the conversation never stopped and people actually stayed longer than I had thought they would.

The next day I spoke with some of the guests and they all thanked me for the invite and commented on how much they enjoyed themselves.

I got to thinking about it and wondered why did everybody enjoy themselves so much and came to the conclusion that it was because of two reasons.
1- There was no alcohol, and
2- I'll get flamed for this but, there were no women.

There's a time and place for everything. ;)

Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time with no expectations, just that every single one of them needed a guy's night out after all this Covid B.S., and you provided it...good on you, and Happy Birthday !

Who was the stripper?

I have two older brothers. One only 11 months my senior. He lives in South Florida and the oldest in Virginia. They are both married - me single.

I'm 67 so we are all "getting up" in age.

I had an idea that we 3 brothers get together for a camping trip at some point to re-connect in person - just us guys.

Heck - all 3 of us were scouts for many years - we know the drill.

My oldest brother (who in my opinion gave up his man card many years ago) said he wasn't going anywhere without his wife.

Well that shot that idea down.

In a perfect world SHE would tell him to go and she'll see him when he gets back......that's what a real companion would do, IMHO.

Glad you enjoyed your get together, Hugh....good job!

The retired banker offered, but he was quickly discouraged.

But did that stop him? THAT is the real question no one wants answered!

Congratulations and good to hear it went well. Fortunately, we here in Texas have been more open than many other places, so it hasn't been too difficult to get people together.

That said, early on when the restaurant dining areas were closed, I was driving by a Whataburger and saw four gentlemen sitting around a card table drinking coffee and BS'g in the parking lot. Wish I'd gotten a picture and wanted badly to wheel back and buy them a round.

Wish everyone could have seen that.
