I guess I must be a collector too...as I have an electric and acoustic, a violin, a banjo, a mandolin, a harp and a piano...and can't play any of them.

Another bit of trivia for you. The little pocket on a pair of Levi jeans is made to fir a Zippo lighter.

I thought that was for a pocket watch.

That would be a neat trick, because the jeans were around 60 years before the Zippo was invented.

pwd72s 03-10-2022 06:50 PM

See how quickly the zippo took over?

Amazing. So the jeans 60 years ago are just like the ones today.

It seems you are ! I hope for your sake that the mandolin is a Lloyd Loar f-5, time to get the flash light out and look inside

If yes = $200k maybe

You overfilled it. The trick is to let it burn a minute or two after refilling to burn the excess out of the packing. I quit smoking long ago, but hung on to the old zippos. The last one I carried was solid brass, 1982 commemorative celebrating their 50th. Zippo engraved my signature on it's face. Another is just a chrome one I bought through a Pano ad in the 60's, has a small Porsche crest on it's face. The other is my dad's old lighter...just a standard chrome one, the chrome worn to brass in spots. I doubt any of them are worth much to anybody but me.

If I had to bet, I'd bet your grandfather also carried a spare flint or two under that
solid top layer of the packing. I hope you still have it...

Oh...you can toss a lit zippo..a bic goes out the second you let go.

Don’t understimate an old zippos value. Tons of them are worth decent money.

Not that it is important:

I think you guys are correct, correct for your grandfathers era, but now people don't tend to wear pocket watches (especially tiny ones that would fit into that pocket) they sized it for Zippo lighters. Nice to see you guys so emotional about your pocket watches/levis,

I've been there a few times, about 30 minutes away. My son loved the place, particularly the ball bearing drop machine!

LOL. It is where I wear my pocket watch with my 501s. Have done so since the 70s. But, not emotional about it.

During a visit to a Navy F-4 Phantom squadron (it was the last one to eventually (kicking and screaming) transition to the F-14 Tomcat), a reporter was given a Zippo lighter as a parting gift, inscribed "Better a Sister in a Whorehouse, Than a Brother Flying F-14s."

Who smokes anymore?
Maybe my cig lighters in my 911's are worth some big cash.

It would be a great 'special buying bonus' for the Michiganja Stores around here.

"Buy a min of 5grams..get a zippo lighter for free!"
