First season with a Ryobi trimmer. Seems well built with steel in many places, good bye the Black and Decker.

We had a B&D 12v and it lasted 12 years before the motor quit. Had two batteries for 1.5 acres with several trees. No complaints really. Dad still has his that is a couple years younger and is on his second set of batteries.

We now have a gas and 24v electric. The electric is much nicer to the fruit trees/

Dewalt 20 volt trimmer is nice for light duty tight quarters work. Lasts about 20 minutes per charge on 5 aH batteries.

Wow, that thing sucks down the electrons!

Also FYI, repairs for Echo are usually fuel related - a new fuel filter or fuel line can resolve. If you need a new carb you can get an aftermarket one from eBay for only $10....

Carb For Zama Carburetor Rb-K93 Echo A021001690 GT225, Pas225, Srm225 Trimmer

This. Just did the carb, all fuel lines and air filter for 16 bucks.

That said, I'll buy a greenworks 80v next time-no running out for gas etc. Very happy with their 40v pole saw.

I think my echo gas trimmer has given up. Have some dewalt stuff so thinking maybe try a cordless. Has anyone had luck with them long term?

If not should i buy another echo or maybe try a different brand like stihl?

My dad has been using a Husqvarna battery powered trimmer for about 2 years now. I would think the only longevity issue would be the batteries. The brushless motors seem pretty bulletproof.

Just to update I bought the $219 Dewalt trimmer (with battery) and have used it twice now. Thus far i'm impressed and can see why these are becoming popular.

I always wear hearing protection using gas powered stuff.

Electric is adequate for most stuff, with long extension cord.
