You must be a subscriber? I couldn't open either link. Maybe my adblocker?

Fark!

I'll figure it out.

He was a financial analyst/investor who decided to take a year off, at 36, and play 36 courses around the world designed by Alister Mackenzie.

He is a member at Palmetto Golf Course in Aiken (as am I, but it has been 30 years since I played it) that was finished in the late 1800's by Mackenzie.

https://www.palmettogolfclub.net/

He is a dead ringer for a young Sergio

He is friends with a few Professional Golfers and asked asked me if I want to play a few holes with the.

Uh, no.

Sucks to see guys spank one 300 yards straight as an arrow down the fairway, then duff one 30 yards to the right out of bounds. Been there, done that.

Trust me, I know.

Golf never suited me...the sports I loved were motion sports: see the ball, hit the ball. See the receiver, throw ball...run the floor see and pass or shoot. Motion.

It was never a physical issue, my mind just simply wanders with golf...I hated the fact that I stopped being a catcher in baseball in HS. It was my favorite thing to do on the planet in sports; middle of the maelstrom, decisions, thought and physically all wrapped into one.

I am going to try again. My business partner is a two handicap and has promised me I'll break 90 again in three months. Still won't play with Morgan and his Buds, however.

I have broken 80 in golf twice, once in college and once gettng ready for AOCS in the Navy: 80 to a real golfer is the Hindenburg. I was high-fiving pine trees.

Interesting club. A wee bit pricey for nonmembers… Green fees are $1400.

Why on earth do you maintain a membership in course/club that you have not played in 30 years? I can’t imagine the dues being that cheap.

That's Masters week. Suspect they can charge a little more.

Yeah, but that seems to be the ONE week they are open to the public…

I started playing a little when I was 13 when my grandfather took us out to the local 9 hole course near their house at the Russian River. Really liked it. You can never stop getting better. I played a lot with a friend about 10 years ago, like twice a week for several months. My best was an honest 81, with a few rounds in the low-mid 80s. Most of the shots are going the right way by then with minimum screw ups. I'd shoot 37 or 38 in the front 9, then 45+ on the back 9 to blow the 80 or less.

I'd suggest taking some lessons from a pro and build on good technique.

Social only. My sister and I keep it. Morgan covers golf.

You’d have to know Aiken.

So did Paul, my partner.

I think I am ready.

My break 80's: One was just luck, the college one; the other I was getting ready for Aviation Officer Candidate School, which started in October, and I had finished running rivers in August and was home in Aiken working out like a beast and walking 18 at least three times a week.

I was by myself. The course was empty on a week day. I didn't have to f'ing wait for anyone else. It was great.

You may ask yourself...never happened again.
