What car is this - pic included

My dad lived in Ohio as a teen and then moved to FL. THis is the car that they had in 1962 when they moved. What is it? I'm not expecting this to be hard, but I'm just not that familiar with that era and this sort of car.

Buick

HobieMarty 04-23-2022 05:12 PM

Could it be a Buick Park Avenue?

Deuce and a quarter.

Edit. Hobie is right, the Electra is bigger and it had 4 portholes.

BUT, the car in the pic is a '60, not a '62

Edit. I misread the OP. Of course they could have had a 60 in 1962.

Lesabre 4 door. The bubble top 2 doors look better... 1960.

1960 Buick Invicta is my entry.

maxnine11 04-23-2022 05:25 PM

A LeSabre would have the LeSabre emblem in cursive ahead of the front wheel. The car in question has the Invicta rectangular emblem.

Thanks folks. I knew you'd nail it for me.

The windshield and rear window are amazing.

Absolutely, I thought they were one in the same.

Not smart enough to figure how to imbed the image. One of Kindig's best at '59 Invicta. Saw it a Barrett Jackson in Jan. Stunning

I'm thinking 1960 Buick Electra

asphaltgambler 04-25-2022 06:12 AM

The OP pic is what GM called 4-door sports roof. No B pillar. To me, GM especially, was at the height of styling decadence by '58/60. There is sooo much going on with this example, look at the rear wrap around glass, the horizontal scoop flaring to the headlights. Wow!!

This was on My Car Story just the other day.
1959 Buick Skylark 2 door "bubble top".

Agreed. I think the vehicle that I asked about is a '60 Invicta (looks like it's got horizontal headlights vs angled), and a bunch of the styling and details in the car are really something.

This video shows some of the details in the interior of a similar vehicle.

I’m especially amazed by the continuous and substantial changes from year to year.

I think I could take a picture of a front marker light on any car, post it here, and someone would identify the car within 30 minutes.

I shouldn't even have had to ask about this one if I'd paid enough attention and noticed the port holes. I think I'd have been able to track it down starting with 1962 buick and working my way back from there.

But we have had some folks post pics of partial cars that were identified. Some have been really impressive.

Right? I think the time from the late 40s/early 50s for the next couple of decades saw lots of big, frequent changes. I assume the prosperity in the US following WWII contributed. I would assume that the major sheet metal changes through the 50s and 60s were expensive.
