I'm looking at "upgrading" my phone, Iphone, Galaxy, or Pixel?
I currently have a Galaxy S9 and it works just fine. But I've been considering upgrading to one of the newest models. The Pixel 6 Pro and the Galaxy S22 Ultra have an alarming number of reviews mentioning issues. My kids each got a new Iphone 13 pro max and they seem to be problem free. My phone really does everything I want it to do but they're offering $700 in trade for my phone to upgrade. Dammit! I don't know which phone to go with???

That's the weird thing! The 20 and 21 are sorted out. The S22 Ultra seems to be having some rollout issues. The only reason the Iphone even remotely interests me is for facetime. I can see where it would be nice if I want to chat with my oldest daughter.

I avoid anything Apple like the plague. I simply can't abide by their human rights practices, so they'll never see a dime from me.
I have the new Samsung Flip, and it's been a good phone. Great camera, does everything else a smartphone is supposed to do, and I like the smaller form factor.

Oh by the way... I'm the only one in my house that doesn't have an Iphone! I've been a "Samsung guy" since I bought my Galaxy S5 (still use it for my Bosch bluetooth code reader)

I've had google phones from the beginning... sold as Nexus then.. now Pixels
I like that they have no carrier bloatware or spyware.... Google and Apple do enough of that on there own All the manufacturers phones have teething problems when initially released, it might take a round or two of updates to fix things

There will be some features that are better when everyone is on an iPhone. They may not matter to you, but they can be nice. Texting is a little more feature rich and works better between iPhones.

I had the first google phone, the G1 which was HTC. I liked it, and at the time, Android was, IMO superior to the iPhone. I think I had 2 more Android phones. By that time, Android and Apple were neck in neck as far as features and capabilities. I switched to Apple and haven't looked back. All of our family is Apple except for my son-in-law, and my wife and I are also both running Macs. For me the feature of interoperability between various devices in the new feature that I love. Also, I feel like the hardware is usually better made/higher quality.

I traded my S9 for an S20FE. Wife likes the camera. I just use it for calls and text, and Slack for work, and surfing when waiting for the kids…

Yeah I know what you mean. I think it would be nice to know when I send a text that the receiver has read it. That's something I can't see now with my Galaxy.

I have an old Pixel. It's definitely not as intuitive and smooth to use as a comparable iPhone. There always seems to be an extra step or two in getting anything done. Not a big deal normally, but every once on awhile (i.e. in a car) it's just that much more difficult to complete a task.

I got myself a Pixel 4a last year. Not too pricey, right size, no crapware, and great camera. The Samsungs are fine but I despise the amount of crapware they come with.
I've never found iOS devices to be intuitive, but that's obviously a personal preference.

Look at a OnePlus. I went from an S9 to an N10, liked it so much I put both my boys on them when they retired theirs. No bloatware and not carrier specific, supports 5G and buying pre-owned or returned it was maybe 1/3 the cost. Granted this was all pre-inflation so haven't checked.
The lack of carrier apps and manufacturer bloatware was what sold me, got incredibly sick of paying for a slug of memory and only being able to use half of it with no option to remove apps unless you jailbreak. I went the iPhone route a few years ago, never again. Apple's UI and limits to formats and content transfer pissed me off so much I sold the phone and went back to Android after less than a year. Music I owned (but didn't buy through Apple) wouldn't transfer over unless I ripped the DMC. I love their stock but will never buy their products.

One of the things that drives me bonkers is lack of "priority" for bluetooth devices on my S9. Seems it's no better on the new phones. I can be using my galaxy buds, walk out of my house, and the phone connects to the bluetooth in my shop rather than staying with my buds. Same thing when I pull my car in the shop. It'll disconnect from whatever is being used and connect to the shop stereo. I've read that the only way to give priority is to remove the devices and then add them again moving them on the list of devices.

If you have or plan on using a iPad with your phone, the iPhone is the way to go. The menus are the same and they interact quite well. My wife would fight hard to keep her iPad. She reads books, and uses it a lot.

I have the new Galaxy S22+, upgraded from an S20. It's not a huge leap forward, processor speed is faster by a little and screen gestures are smoother. Camera is better. No complaints so far but these phones are so good in the last few generations the improvements with each new version are much smaller than they used to be.
