M4A4 Sherman Tank on BaT

It takes a little time but starting at the beginning and reading through the comments is a worthwhile 10-15 minutes of your time IMHO. Good stuff in there.

Shaun,

No tanks for you until you finish that 928 young man!

Serious money for it too.

Someone needs to let Wayne know!

Wayne is like Mikey from the old cereal commercials.

That thing spent time sitting on what is considered the richest street in Houston. Wealthy attorney bought it and parked in front of his house. Made for a funny story.

That looks ridiculously cramped inside. Cant image the heat and noise, not to mention combat.

Great article. Thanks for posting. I was living in the area then, but didn't hear about it.

Not the same tank. The lawyer's tank had a cast hull. The one above has welded plate and different apertures on the front.

The number: USA 3035570-S is the same on both tanks as are the other markings so I figured it must be the same tank. Plus they're within 100 miles of each other.

Yes. Paint is pretty easy to change compared to steel.

The tank for sale is absolutely the same tank parked in front of Buzbees house in River Oaks. The confusion is the tank shown in the Texas Monthly article is a stock photo and not the actual one parked in Houston. (I know it’s shocking that Texas Monthly would not be accurate.) Buzbee is a marine and his grandfather was at Normandy in WW2, he’s also an Aggie, which is why the tank ended up being donated to an organization in College Station.

Shocking!

My college roommate worked at Texas Monthly in the 80's. He had several stories about them, one in particular I remember was when he saw the cover of Eric Johnson about to go to print. He commented that he didn't realize Eric Johnson was left handed. He's not and fortunately that comment stopped the printing.
