Does my friend have to go to this wedding

Friend of mine in finance, her assistant asked her to go to her wedding. She doesn't want to go and already said she can't. I said it would be a mistake.

Background, she complained bitterly and endlessly when a previous assistant did not ask her to his wedding. It became a "needs therapy" thing IMHO.

What's the etiquette on something like this?

My advice would be "buy her a gift, thank her for the invite, and don't go, if you don't want to go."

Does she have something else planned or she just doesn't want to go?

Does she like her assistant?

She needs to show her face at the reception and take a nice gift, otherwise, she risks the assistant looking for a new job after the honeymoon.

I'll take your word for it, but that seems weird. I would never expect my boss to come to some event that I had. And if invited, I certainly wouldn't quit if they didn't come. That's just bizarre to me.

My wife said that this very much depends upon the relationship that they have. How long have they worked together. How close are they? That sort of thing.

My wife and I are both thinking that it's possible that this could have been a courtesy invite. "I don't want my boss to feel snubbed, so I'll invite my boss."

Crash the wedding, get your free shrimp cocktail, and leave.

Any suggestions from you will be a 'no win' for you..... I'd stay out of it.

Unless you are the +1, then you eat and drink for free, and your friend has to give the gift.

I am no way saying that's how I would handle things. My husband and I eloped and told people after because the marriage was more important than the party but some women are crazy and even more so when it comes to getting married as I have heard on here many times . I'm just saying depending on her assistant, this is a possibility.

This is why I am pushing her to go to be honest.

I just think it's a poor move not to go.

Definitely should go… It’s a courtesy to ask your boss and if she doesn’t go, there might be resentment. If anything, it will bring them closer together.

Funny thing how the mind works. Every time this thread pops up, I see "does my friend have to go to HIS wedding"
