Shrinkflation

Its hitting us right in the butt now....

I just noticed TP mfg have shrunk/narrowed the roll..

Just a few months ago a roll was the full width of the tp holder....

I thought that happened over the past 10-20 years.

Yes, "we're going to make the rolls huge which means you get more. The rolls are now 4x or 6x larger" (oh, we didn't mention that we made them more narrow, and that more than offset the other change that we made?)

This has been happening for decades. The worst is a half gallon of orange juice went from 64 ounces to 59 ounces to 54 ounces to 52 now.

Fewer tissues per roll as well. They wrap the cardboard tube looser.

Reminds me of how the toothpaste mfg's increased sales simply by increasing the size of the hole in the tube you squeeze the paste out. They realized people put paste on their brush by length of brush.

Until recently I was getting full width rolls. I really had not given much thought to the reduced width until I was recently at my Vermont house... and the rolls there are still full width...granted I don't remember the last time we bought tp up there

Many/most things that you can get at a grocery store have gone through this.

But, a big part of the problem is that people will scream if prices go up. If you can't raise prices, then you have to provide less stuff for the same money. Costs of all sorts of things, materials, transportation, etc... have all gone up.

That's a factor in my purchasing though I buy so little stuff that's effected by size, that is packaged foods, it's negligible and I don't need to worry about it much.

But with the current inflation via profiteering, I am only buying organic milk. Hood went up 50 cents a gallon. Horizon has stayed the same or 10 cents cheaper. So I just buy Horizon since I sincerely doubt Hood's price to buy and process and ship has gone up 50 cents a gallon.

I thought this thread was about being in the pool :D...

A pound of coffee (Peet's is what I buy in stores)... became 12oz, then 11, and I think I've seen 10.5 lately.

Haven't been to Mickey D's in decades....

Might drop by for a Qtr. Ouncer and an order of fry :(.

With the recent "inflated home values" I think maybe the toilet paper is the same size, it's your toilet paper holder that has inflated? :D

Bill Douglas 06-26-2022 12:03 PM

Maybe peoples arses a getting bigger and the toilet paper just looks small.

^^^ A trip to Walmart will prove that.
