I had a beloved 15 year old cat get skinny and sick. The vet said we can take out the tumor (for $6k) but she might die anyway. But Doc, wouldn't that be like doing a heart transplant on my 98 year old grandmother? "You have a point there". We let her die in peace. Heartbreaking but sensible. It would sure prevent a lot of pain if they could genetically alter pets to live as long as us.

I would opt for the surgery, hope is not lost it sounds like. Fingers crossed they can fix the issue on the table, and the weak and tired fades as he gets some nutrients back in him. 13 is a great run for a large dog, but that does not mean he is done necessarily!
Best of luck, sending good thoughts your way.

Well, we took a chance with the surgery. No other option except to put him down. Turns out he had a piece of clothesline with a knot in it from hie esophagus to his bowel !! There was quite an "amazing" amount of grass packed in it !! NO CANCER !! They had to open him in 2 places to get it all out. Now he can heal !!!

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers !!

Excellent Matt! He would have died if you had not acted fast.

I feel like going out for a pee on the street corner to celebrate.

Edit: Poor fella, he knew he had something stuck inside him and was eating the grass to hopefully throw it up.

I've heard of Beagles eating socks a couple of times in a row. That crossed my mind a few times with the TroublePuggle. Also the kitty box although I've never caught him personally. Neighbor's dog sneaks right to it. My pup eats the rabbit offerings. The kitty will eat his dry food in front of him. I let them figure it out.

Great news!
