Classic and daily driver insurance
So now that I have my 996 project running and somewhat road worth I need insurance . We currently have all our cars/truck/home with Allstate . I am thinking about going with a classic/agreed value policy on the 986 and 996 but also want to insure a Volvo XC90 and GMC dually and the house .
Anyone have a bundled plan similar to what I need to insure ? As an example I know Grundy does classic and every day drivers but not sure about home . Did you shop online and local agents ? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated . |
I use American National Insurance. (ANAPAC) for my house, and three cars, and even an umbrella policy. I have my 911 and the El Camino on agreed value policies. I pay about a buck a day for the 911, and even less for the El Camino. My wife's 2017 Macan is the most expensive of the three cars to insure.
They have been great to deal with. As I have not had any claims in over 5 years, at the anniversary of my policy they send me a rebate check of over $1,000. This year is was $1,017.50 Find an agent in your area, and have them give you an estimate. My neighbor saw us getting a new roof after a hail storm and inquired about our insurance. He changed his insurance to them and has been very happy. |
I tried to do that with our Amica policy but they said it's a different line of insurance. They would insure the 993 but not with an agreed value. They said I would be better off with company like Hagerty, etc. So I keep the 993 off the Amica bundle and went with Hagerty for the 993.

Ask people in Georgia.
Carriers have filed rates and will be different state by state. Find the best solution in your part of the county. Because my solution almost certainly won’t be best for you. |

The "save with a bundle" option usually isn't. I have properties insured with Amica, truck with Geico, and the 911 was with Hagerty (don't recall the actual company), but not currently. It varies by state, and it's probably worth shopping around.... YMMV. Even USAA (if you have that option) is not a one size fits all for some.... it just depends.

Good advice from all of you thanks . I guess I need to see a local agent or two and get quotes . Then do some online research and figure this out . I never was totally convinced that " bundling " saved on insurance . It seemed to work for American Pickers 😁

My only experiences with local agents made me want to visit a car dealership's salesman :D.
Geico, Amica, Hagerty .... all online. I've dealt with total BS from Nationwide and Allstate too... I now feel like I need another shower ;). |

Porsche auto insurance is available in GA. I’ve heard good things - you might want to try them.

I'd suggest you have to decide how often, when and where you want to drive your 996 when it comes to choosing a regular policy or a collector car policy. I drove my SC for the first 8 years with a regular policy liability and uninsured motorists only. Never really worried about driving it anywhere. Then as values really went on the uptick I rethought that plan and went with a collector car policy with agreed value.
Can't drive it to work. Can't drive it to run errands. Only "pleasure drives" allowed. Limited to X miles. I think I drove the SC once in the 2 years of the pandemic, for about 10 miles one "pleasurable" afternoon. Nowadays it sits in my dark garage on tires that have "timed out". I've played right into my insurer's hand. Their "risk" with me is pretty much nil at this point. |

I found it a hell of a lot cheaper to keep 'em separated. For a 996 + want to drive it daily I'd be tempted to just do regular coverage- it's still new enough you may still be in the game (they pay a decent value) if you lose the car. You pay more, but at least you get to drive it everywhere.
Hagerty (for my truck and pontiac) and Amshield or is what I have. rjp |
Ok need a sanity check. I went on the Porsche insurance website and received a quote . Told the online form I will drive each car 3000 miles a year . I told them the value of the 996 is 28k and the 986S is 25k . The coverages for both is below .
Bodily injury 100k/300k Uninsured motorist 100k/300k Comprehensive deductible 500 Collision deductible 500 Uninsured motorist deductible 500 Property damage 100k Uninsured motorist property damage 100k No medical payments or rental coverage Online estimator says $26.22 a month for the Boxster and $27.58 a month for the 996 . So total every 6 months is $322.80 and that's for both cars !!! That's about $600.00 LESS every 6 months than my current Allstate insurance . Is that possible ? Does anyone have the Porsche insurance ? Any issues ? If that pricing is legit I would have to seriously consider switching. |
Allstate... The good finger people :(? Yeah, I can believe it... try Amica for your house next ;).

Can't speak to guaranteed value since I don't have the 911 anymore and never used guaranteed value in the first place. |
With that low mileage, yeah, entirely reasonable. I have American Collectors on my 911 and sl600. The policy allows something like 7500/yr, occasional errand use, cars must be garaged. 450 annually for both vehicles. 911 is agreed value of 25k, Benz 15k. Both likely lowish in today's market.

On that quote above you cite 100/300 limits.
You drive Porsche’s. Get higher limits and a umbrella. Please. |

Eight vehicles total, including 5 P-cars, all with agreed value policy from Hagerty, and I pay approximately $2500/yr.
