The slow changing of the very old guard.
RIP Chris, you were truly one of the blessed of the blessed. |
I met Chris on Pelican probably 20 years ago. I was asking about transmission rebuilds and likely complaining about the cost. He contacted me, told me how to get discounted parts and then said to bring up and he would rebuild. He Just wanted a liter of Mountain Dew. I was sure I was going to get tied up in a basement, but money’s money. Well I was so fortunate to have gone. He was funny and extremely kind. I knew almost immediately I was around someone special. Just so fun to be around.
I recall recently driving with him and another Pelican. Well someone cut us off and the other Pelican got really mad, cursing away. Chris explained that we didn’t know the other person’s situation and maybe they were dealing with something really bad to make them drive like that. He just oozed of kindness when the rest of us would be quick to curse. Anyhow, These are just some stories I tell people about Chris though there are many. I sure his really close friends would have hundreds of these stories. In closing, The world lost a really special person today. One I know I try to be like. In Chris’s honor, do the Dew and share some kindness. Rest In Peace. |
^ great story. Wish I'd met Chris. RIP.

Sad to lose another one but it's a finish line we all cross . RIP and we'll wishes for his family and friends .

Everyone who knew Chris, and that is a lot of people, was a better person for his friendship. You got to see the world through the eyes of how the world should be: pure joy, kindness, generosity, understanding and optimism with no excuses or compromises. Chris was unshakably true to his values and ideals.
And that changed you. It was an honor to be a part of his life for over 20 years, to always want to be more like him, to cherish his friendship, and now the memories of one of the greatest men we all have ever known. Good bye my friend. A few pics from the last couple of years. Shaun,
Great photos. |
There is no one like Chris, he IS one of a kind. We all have Chris stories, which, here is mine.... I was talking a walk with my wife, when I noticed a guy leaning over a white 86 911, AC compressor hanging over the rear quarter on a pad. I said, "Hey!!! Look... a guy working on a 911!!!!" "Nobody does that!!" So I walked up to him (my wife pulling on my arm... thinking I'm crazy) and said, "Hey, I'm restoring a 74 911!!" Chris looked up and said, "Really??!!! Where??" I mentioned I lived up the street and he said he'd stop by to see it. We ALL know he wouldn't show.... but, he did, the next morning!!
I showed him my freshly painted, rolling chassis. He thought I was crazy.... He couldn't believe someone would go that far on a car. Because of Chris I was able to complete that car. He said, bring it over, we can look at the motor and trans. 25 years later, my friend Chris is gone, RIP, you'll be missed by ALOT of people. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659552874.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659552874.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659552874.jpg |
