NEVER don't bring earplugs to a show. A Son Volt concert I went to was so loud that I had to go down to the bar and ask if they had earplugs. (They Did!), and it was then I realized that if Son Volt plays concerts too loud then everyone plays too loud now.
So I bought me some cool chambered earplugs that let me hear the lyrics during most concerts.

Got tickets for Lyle Lovett on the 16th

He's great with his Large Band. I missed seeing him when he toured with Vince Gill (who's another great one in concert).

I hope Vince decides to 'quit' the Eagles and go back to touring with the likes of Lyle Lovett again.

It's kind of a shame that they aren't making the grade, but there are a lot of great bands on the B circuit that I don't like to miss when they come through. Asleep at The Wheel is one, Dave Alvin is another and Hot Tuna came through right before covid and had a great show. Big Head Todd you shouldn't miss just because, and The Rev. Horton Heat. Big Sandy and The Fly-Right Trio....

You never said - how were the Outlaws and the Headhunters?

The Outlaws were definitely the best of the bunch. Very cohesive and musical. Jammed great together and had the crowd jazzed. KH wasn’t near that good.

Went to see some big-name bands from the 60's and 70s in the 80s when they were supposedly "washed up." Musically, they seemed little different than in their prime except tickets were cheap and they were more appreciative of their audience. A couple years ago, we went to a couple of concerts with some old rockers/metal and they were pretty sad. I guess they just need the money. Last time for me. I will just keep listening to my CDs.

Most a quite a bit older than me, and I have noticed that my singing voice has lost an awful lot...even singing in the shower. I imagine they are no different.

Ringo and his All Star Band seem to be still rockin it as well.

Paul McCartney’s new album, Kisses on the Bottom (standards) is great. A repertoire of songs that his 81 year old voice is perfect for.

I would have thought that Marshall Tucker would have been washed up in about 1982. I saw them in the mid-'70s, that was nearly 50 years ago, folks.

I have no interest in seeing any geriatric band perform, decades past their prime, just recycling old hits for an old audience. This definitely includes The Rolling Stones. I think that it's pathetic and it actually makes me sad and feel old.

We saw Lyle Lovett and his large band with Chris Isaak opening the show at Wolf Trap last night. Very good show by both performers.

We saw Joan Jett a few years ago. Great show. Also saw Joe Cocker near the end, again a fun show.

The others.... I get more from a cover band in a small venue. Although Elton John was fun, he had help on the piano, and the ticket prices for the farewell tour were crazy.....

Sometimes I'd rather spend 2 hours listening to the durtbags at Durty Harry's on Duval....SmileWavy

Many years ago the Beach Boys played the jersey shore. Hoo boy they were just awful. It was one of those performance when you feel worse for the performer than you do for yourself. I left long before the end of the show.

Saw CI as the headliner at an open-air show 10 or so years ago.. He put on a fantastic show, and oh, man, did the ladies love him. I recall a lot of very attractive 30, 40 year old women crowding the stage in barely-there dresses.

Rapewta 08-08-2022 09:33 AM

I saw TMTB in the late 70's with J. Geils. Enjoyed the show. The only thing I can think of for these
old geezers to reunite and play is money.

Not sure if it's a love of performing, ego or money that has a lot of 70+ year old musicians out there performing, mainly at small venues, local festivals, etc. I have pretty much stopped going as the music is not what I remembered in their prime (and mine). Twenty years ago, they were still passable but not the past several years.
To me, one or two guys from the original band with a group of young musicians trying to make a buck.
