A day with a Boxer twin in the woods.
Went out for a little ride yesterday on the R1200GS. Took some back roads out to the forest an up into the mountains near Detroit Lake, Oregon. Always good for the soul. Love the boxer engine.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659979744.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659979779.jpg

Awesome, Eric! It looks like we both had the same idea yesterday. What a great day for a ride in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!

Eric - what happened to the Africa Twin?
(Great pics, btw) |
Awesome. I was in Tillamook National Forest on my Husqvarna TX300 yesterday.

Boxer twins are the best! I've had a few. That motor gets in your soul.

Nice.
Headed out tomorrow for 5 days riding in Northern wisconsin with these crusty dudes. Here's a glam shot from our CO-UT-AZ BDR trip last year. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659982462.jpg |
^ fantastic shot!

Herr Oberst, Well, I kinda went through a spot where I didn't want two bikes. Trying to simplify things. I liked both bikes, the AT and the Indian so I put them both up for sale and the AT sold first so I kept riding the Indian. However, as the months passed, I yearned for the dual purpose bike and seating position more and more. I traded the Indian for the GS. Sometimes I take the long way round I guess :(
The GS is better suited for my style of riding than the AT as well. A little more comfy on the tarmac and capable enough for forest service roads. I don't think I'll ever get her to far off road. As good as the AT was, the GS is well, better, for me anyway. |

The GS is such a great bike - a little wide and heavy but one of our guys rides it like its a dirt bike, very capable. Weekend rides are more local - limited here in the Midwest. HEre's a few more of my favorites http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659985618.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659985618.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659985744.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659985744.jpg |
Right on Chris! Looks like a blast!

Wow! Adventure bikes on epic adventures!
For. The. Win! Eric, I see packs of those bikes every weekend on 26 and 14 going off looking for trouble. Can't you do a few MeetUps with some like-minded folks down there towards Detroit and Santiam? I was on a gravel grinder this last June out near Lyle past your old house and right after this picture was taken there were about 50 KTMs and a few Yamahas and Hondas that took off down this dirt road on some sort of epic fun day. (Luckily we turned off right about where that guy is off in the distance so we didn't get in anyones way! Yes, I have a pink helmet. Sue me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659988046.JPG |
Yep Mike, I just have to find them. In fact, I just met a fellow dual sporter the other day whilst getting dinner in Turner. He noticed my helmet and struck up a conversation. We exchanged info.
