GoPro Heat Issues

Updated our GPH 3 for a GoPro Hero 10. (Then they released the 11…)

Was running it for a night dive and it shut down three times due to excessive heat. I understand high processor speeds run hot, but seriously…. three times?!?!?!? I could feel the hot temp through my 3 mil wetsuit when I tucked it under my BCD strap. My GPH-3 never did this, but then again it didn’t have all the bells n whistles the 10 has.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what are your tips n tricks?

Cheers
Trevor

Interesting, and a little surprising since you'd think it would stay cool if underwater. I'm assuming it's still in a case when underwater, so I guess air/water cooling can't keep up with heat production.

I would think that this would come up online somewhere, folks complaining or trying to figure out how to fix it.

I find Go Pros cameras can handle heat. All day heat in the sun running continuously. Stopages seem to be mostly due to poor memory cards. I have tried many brands and sometimes certain brands are liked better than others even if they spec out the same.

I have had two and three cameras running side by side with the same brand and spec of cards. Sometimes one camera will stop and shut down. I will swap out a known good card and if it continues send it back under warranty.

Poor cards tend to bottleneck throughput and generate more heat.

The Samsung Evo V30 cards as well as the Lexar Professional 1066x Silvers are really good performers.

The newer the camera (higher model numbers) do run warmer than the older 3, 4 and 5s. If you are getting a temperature shutdown under water I would make a warranty claim. All generations of cameras have reported heat issues. Cards resolve most of them but when you pack all that temperature emitting tech into a little box something is bound to happen, nature of the device.

Looks the same as Itchyboots uses on her travels around the world.
Desert temps don't seem to affect hers.
