Who will rebuild Florida?
With such massive devastation, insurance companies will do their best to not pay and underpay. Like what happened after 2008 settled down and all the way through today, I think corporate and professional money will swoop in and buy out massive tracts of land and rebuild with a focus on upper and resort class housing whether it was there or not before Ian.

Who will rebuild?
The Church. Six weeks after Hurricane Katrina, I was in New Orleans with a group of skilled construction workers volunteering our time. The airport was an eerie ghost town. Instead of fixing homes as I expected, we ended up rebuilding a couple churches. A year later, I was asked to return. What a difference. "We've got the Baptist group coming that week, Catholics the week after that, we have a time between them and the Lutherans. Can you guys come then?" The airport was buzzing with activity. In every direction, there were groups all wearing matching T-shirts, printed with the logos of the church they were from. A couple dozen red shirts here, bunch of yellow shirts over there, green shirts on the other side. Blue, orange , white.... All from different church groups wanting to help. How many others at the airport were like my group, that didn't bother getting matching T-shirts, but were still there to volunteer? The two church buildings we worked on before had become beacons for the entire community. One was converted to dorm style housing for all the church groups coming, one after another. Amazing transformation. Had no idea so many were willing to roll up their sleeves, and get dirty helping total strangers. |
