The Green Flash, and captured pics of it

Ok folks, how many of you have had the pleasure of ever seeing the elusive green flash? Post Em if ya got em.

Tonight we were able to cross off a long time goal of diving with the Mantas off the shoreline of the Big Island. While doing the pre-dive brief, everyone watched the sunset on the bow. I guess that since I was filming and viewing through the iPhone, I missed the millisecond the green flash was visible. There was one other diver also filming through her GoPro and watching, like me via the screen. The two of us were the only ones that did not see it.

The pic I posted is the exact moment it occurred. We were also told that clouds on the horizon will muck up the phenomena.

Has anyone had the pleasure of seeing it???

We had a little place up north of Waianae in Makaha we went for years and watched a lot of sunsets. We always hoped to see the green flash, nope. Then we used to go to Estero Island (sadly just wiped out by Ian) and again lot of sunsets, no green flash. It sort of became a joke, "hey sun's going down, time for the green flash.."

I'd love to see it, but since I'm rarely at a west facing beach when the sun goes down, it seems pretty unlikely.

I'm far less likely to be up and watching the sunrise over water.

I have seen it.

Funny in that there is a lot of silly stuff that goes on with newbies on their first cruise or work-up in the Navy:

Get me a bucket of relative bearing grease.

Man the mail buoy.

Etc.

So, when my first OinC said it looked like good conditions for the "Green Flash"..."you wanna come to the bridge with me to check it out?"

"Sure, Boss I'll be right there." I never moved.

It is a small world bugstrider. Last night I was sitting on a patio up off mamalahoa hwy at 1600 ft watching that exact same sunset. Depending on where that manta cruise was, I might have been looking across you at it. Didn’t see any green flash, but it was a magnificent evening sky! Enjoy!

So after trying to see if for literally 3 decades I started to think I never would. But I finally saw it while on a boat in Marathon, Florida in 2021. The ocean was really calm and we decided to idle facing due West at dusk and watch for it. Literally lasted about 1/10 of a second. My wife must have blinked because she did not see it. Pretty incredible, as is that picture of it.

I've seen it at least 20 times in Half Moon Bay. It has to be a very clear sky.

Yes, small world indeed. We left the harbor and headed north for about 30 minutes. That’s awesome, our dive was the one located near the Kona airport.
