I bought a used ROPER Refer back in 15 for $80.00..Roper is a downscale Whirpool brand for apartments etc..bin working fine..

My Wife the GE dishwasher joined the union last month after 19 years of faithful service..so I had to buy a new one..Maytag for $623... My friends Dad always said, "The best isn't always the best." Meaning when it comes to appliances which includes autos...best to stay practical and thus basic as there is less to go wrong

After 22 years (1996) my Kenmore Super 80 (Whirlpool) needed a bit of repair..broken Coupler...repair guy said to keep that machine even if it costs you $1000 to fix. He considered them to be the BEST MACHINES EVER MADE where the motors can last 50 years. They stopped making the Direct Drives around 2007. He said all the new machines BREAK after about 2 years..and they do not clean as well. If you look online you can find that there are guys who rebuild those machines..and resell.

I bought a Hobart 5 qt mixer made in 1966 a coupla years back...for $300 delivered...shipping killed me... it needs a bit or repair...The Hobart service rep told me that the old Hobart's are indestructible.new Hobart motors are made in China and are not as good as the old ones.. About that time I found a essentially new Hobart built 5 qt Kitchen Aid mixer (circa early 80's) for $16 in Goodwill... Whirlpool bought the Kitchen Aid brand from Hobart in 1984 and promptly started lessening the quality to maintain price point. By 2000 the Kitchen Aid rep was shot as they were turning out junk (cast gears and not milled etc)..Whirlpool had to start to put quality back into the mixers again.

One thing about the old Rolls Royce motor cars is that a lot of the part were REBUILD-ABLE..it was not a matter of just replacement parts..those motor cars were built to last..and that was why Rolls Royce had the rep it had..

Now you dispose and don't fix..and you pay the environmental piper..

My LG fridge started dying last week.
The top part was only cooling to 45 F
and the freezer was only getting to 25 F.
did diagnostics including amp check, the compressor was almost dead.
Probably cost $1200 to replace the compressor, dryer,
evaporator etc if they could even get parts to do that.
it was about 15 years old so I didn't see spending
that much to repair it.

So I went shopping.
did my homework, research,
checked out many models, and ended up buying
an LG very similar to what I had.
The other stuff just looked like cheap flimsy crap.

It has wifi capability, but we just laughed knowing
we'd never bother with that.
It's not what I would consider high end but its better than midland
26 cu ft black stainless steel
$2600 delivered

Lots of complaining.

I love our appliances. The Sub Zero fridge is great. When I got I my parents house, I almost rip the door off the hinges when I open.

Just wait a minute here!!!! Something of mine seems to have been deleted in this Thread. It took me quite a bit of time and effort to work that out..and poof gone! There was a larger TRUTH in that Post..one that high lighted a perceptional American causation and thus responsibility for the economic predicament that America and the world finds itself in. We ourselves attitudes towards abundance and prosperity are the causation. We have run this nation and global economy over the cliff. Where that mindset still persists in this Thread. So it comes down to a matter of not being able to face the truth about ourselves... I told you what struck me in reading through this Thread..it was about the prevailing attitudes and thus perceptions of the contributors to this Thread.

You would deny the word of God.

Garage
I call this the "laundry basketing of society". if a laundry basket lasted forever they would put themselves out of business. they are designed to break apart after like 9 months so you need a new one.

Tabs has spoken, forget all other posts lol....

Pay good money for good appliances. But know what you are buying. Range Rovers are expensive, but not a quality vehicle. Search out the boutique brand you want to buy, do your research and spend your money. Don't buy a "badge" buy a quality piece of equipment...

Cheers

Its a trend here. Old people just like old things and sometimes refuse to change. I see those old stoves posted from the turn of the century and thought, sure they work, so does a wood burning stove or a horse drawn wagon instead of an engine. I like some old things too, but

The potatoes, onions and garlic in this skillet came from my garden and I split the wood that's cooking it. Not pictured is the trout I caught going into the pan after the taters are done.
I get a strange satisfaction out of these meals in the mountains

And that tea pot used to belong to Al Davis ex Raider owner. Long story but my buddy's girl friend's sister was really tight with Mrs Davis. When she changed her whole kitchen out Anne got all the old stuff. I said how cool is that! Al drank tea from that pot. And she gave it to me. Been boiling water in it for 30 years
